  1. Joe Pass "Sounds of Synanon"

Alright, I'm callin' out the jazzheads on this board to pull this badboy off the shelf and clear away the dust. What's it like? Is it one that people reach for often? I'm very intrigued by this record.
  2. Shirley Scott

Like the earlier Bobby Timmons' thread, I just don't think Shirley Scott is talked about very often. Thus, I'm dedicating this thread to her...what are some of your favorites? Mine: Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis "Cookbook Vol 1 - 3" "Queen of the Organ (At the Front Room)" Stanley Turrentine "Let It Go" B)
  3. Curtis Amy Select

This badboy looks tasty!! I've heard, at least, half the material, but I need a push. I'm looking to make a "final purchase" for a little awhile and it's between that or some Bobby Timmons (This here is...)/Junior Mance (Soulful Piano of Junior Mance) discs. What should I do?
  4. Idris Muhammad

What is everyone's impression of Muhammad's two albums on Prestige? Or for that matter any of his work? There's no thread for this guy, so I figured I would start one.
  5. David "Fathead" Newman 60's sides

Can anyone comment on his dates as a leader in the sixties (i.e. House of David), and even his lone date from the 50s with Ray Charles? He strikes me as somewhat of an unknown in soul jazz circles, though from what little I've heard from him, he's very soulful.
  6. Favorite Blaxploitation Soundtracks

Just interested in hearing everyone's favorites. My personal favs include: — Brother on the Run — Superfly — Blacula
  7. Lester Young Verve Box

I've heard conflicting opinions on this set (along with the Billie holiday Verve Set). Does anyone have an opinion on the content of this set? Is it an accurate portrayal Young - the man- & Young - the musician? Thanks.
  8. Favorite Miles Davis Album

I was just sitting here listening to some Miles for the first time in a few months, and his music never ceases to amaze me. I was curious about some of your favorites. My personal faves are: "In a Silent Way" & "Jack Johnson", though I can't knock the big three of the 50s either (KOB, Milestones & Round About Midnight). Genius!!!
  9. Blue Note 10" Series

Hey Folks, I just received the "Howard McGhee Vol. 2/Tal Farlow" disc today from a trade with a fellow board member and, I must say, I'm pleasently surprised. This music is simply fantastic. Are all the other 10" series this good? Great disc!!!

  11. Dodo Greene

I thought I might let everyone know that I had a Dodo Greene spotting over the weekend. She plays the "Anchor Bar" with a quartet every weekend in Buffalo, NY. Four Songs and out usually.
  12. Dodo Greene

Saw that she was gigging, but my buddy was there on Saturday night. He said she past prime, and actually takes repeated breathers in the ladies room after each two song set.
  13. What album turned G. Benson over to the dark side?

IMO, the record that most blatantly defines Benson's transition to pop was "Good King Bad." OOP title on CTI - his last CTI record.
  14. Hi Folks, Since you guys are better than Fodders by a long shot, I was wondering what recommendations you have for Paris. Carla and I are thinking about a trip in late-October or early-November. Is this a bad time of year to be going there? Any help that you good folks can provide would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  15. Zoom Air Lines

Has anyone ever flown with this company? We are thinking of using it for our trip to Paris in the fall, but wanted to solicit opinions before we really jumped the gun.
  16. Is there a new Star Wars movie coming out?

I actually want to see the General Grievous-Obi Wan battle more than the Annakin-Obi Wan battle.
  17. Travelling to Paris, France

I need to bump this thread...sorry guys!
  18. Travelling to Paris, France

Has anyone ever stayed at any of these hotels: Hotel Langlois St Thomas D'Aquin Jardins d'Eiffel Mugeut These are our finalists.
  19. What did you think? I rewatched "Phantom Menace" and "Attack of the Clones" over the weekend in anticipation of its release. Should we believe the hype!?!?!
  20. I felt the same way. Visually, the movie was spectacular. The story lacked, but I thought it was better than "Troy."
  21. I'm going to that movie tonight as well. I'm really getiing pumped about the new Star Wars. Preliminary reviews rate it as the best since "The Empire Strikes Back."
  22. Complete Atlantic Sessions; Box and 6 cds are in tip-top shape, but there is no booklet. Good music, but I have Mosaic fever. I'll sell it for $50 (s/h included within North America). Paypal only, please. Alternatively, I'll trade the set for or towards any of the "Modern Jazz" Mosaics or Gerald Wilson Mosaic. Thanks!
  23. Mosaic Bootleg?

Can anyone shed light on this set: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4723837490&rd=1
  24. Well, if no one is going to buy my box sets, you might as well buy Mosaic Selects for $32 from this guy. I've bought from him in the past. Don Pullen Andrew Hill Art Pepper Ebay link
  25. **Law & Order Corner**

He's actually only taking time off to shoot the film version of "Rent" in which he first starred on Broadway. He'll be back next season. In the meantime, Chris (Tony's nephew) from the Soprano's will be filling in for five episodes.
