  1. Wayne Dockery

I was thinking about bassist/groovemeister Wayne Dockery lately and was wondering what he is up to. Is he still active as a player...healthy, etc? Anybody know?
  2. Roman Schwaller

Does anyone here have recordings of a Munich tenor player named Roman Schwaller? I was very impressed with ths guy's playing from the time I lived there 20 years ago. He is one of the more established "swing" stylists, probably in his mid to late 40s now. He hosted a weekly jam session at the now defunct "Allotria" club in Schabbing. That cat could blow! He did a date - which I think/hope was recorded in the studio later - called "Three Generations of Tenors" teamed up with the front line of Sal Nistico and Johnny Griffin. This was sometime around 1986 or '87. I have been looking for this for sometime now. If someone knows of its existence, please hip me to the details! Also. any current info on him would be, is he stilll alive and swinging! Muchos Gracias!
  3. Lee Konitz live at Storyville 1954

I picked up a CD release of a date that undoubtedly has been released earlier. It was recorded at George Wein's "Storyville" club in Boston in January '54 w/ Lee Konitz, Ronnie Ball (piano), Percy Heath, and Alan Leavitt. Wonderful session. Anyone have it? It is released by the label "1201 Music". I visited their website, and they have a lot of nice releases. I love the take on "Foolin' Myself". I would like to find a vocal version of it (any other version actually). Any suggestions?
  4. ebay madness re: vinyl

Okay, even though I've been collecting vinyl for years, I know that there are many areas of specialization that I am unfamiliar with. That said, can someone check out this listing I saw on Ebay this morning? This MUST be good! (that, or the jacket has been filled with contraband!) ----->
  5. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

If you’re ever in Charleston, S.C., Record Stop is a worthy destination. They have a huge jazz selection. This was my one buy yesterday, a Mingus record I wasn’t familiar with. Hampton Hawes? Hell yes.
  6. What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Question: Whenever I try to attach a pic I get messages saying the file is too large. I tried using a file compressing app, but that doesn’t solve the problem. Am I missing something?
  7. Great Finds

I was in half-price books yesterday. I rarely find anything special. This was different. I found an original pressing of Fantastic Frank Strozier, his first leader date (Veejay) w/ Booker Little, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb. In very good condition. A steal @ $9.95
  8. Essential John Gilmore?

Has the Gilmore catalogue been discussed in this forum before?

  11. Grandfathering success!

in 1990 My daughter was born at home (w/ the assistance of midwives). I had two records ready to play after the birth. The first was Keith Jarrett's My Song. The second one was Coltrane's Ballads LP.
  12. Gary Peacock R.I.P.

I hope the reports are false. I just don't get the motive for someone to start a hoax story of a jazz musician's death.

  14. Bud Powell on Youtube

  15. Ditching the receiver

Since the pandemic, I have been spending more time listening to LPs and CDs at home, and not content to leave things alone, I decided to upgrade. i bought a Sonamp dedicated amp and a Adcom preamp, and a Schiit phono pre. I am amazed at the improvement in audio quality. My turntable is a Technics SL1200 mk 2 with a moderately priced cartridge. I'm not so inclined to go full tilt audiophile by buying tube gear, etc but this was an expense I don't regret making. I also invested in an inexpensive record cleaner.

  17. BYG records...tracking problems?

Do BYG records have a reputation for skipping? I have two Grachan Moncur III LPs on the label. With a naked eye the vinyl looks impeccable. And the records aren't warped at all. Yet they will not play without skipping. Frustrating to say the least.
  18. BYG records...tracking problems?

    Released 1969 and 1970 respectively
  19. Ditching the receiver

Not necessarily. You hook up whatever vac you have to the unit, using the adapter hose. Here is a link to the company and the cleaner. (KAB EV1)
