  1. Brownie, I certainly respect your opinion, so I'll have to have another listen. I remember being very disappointed with that album. On the other hand, I've heard some tapes of live performance later that year during Eager's "comeback" and some of the are very fine indeed. I seem to remember a burning rendition of "Equinox" from somewhere in England, among others.
  2. Lionel Hampton Quartets on Verve, 4-lp French box set, mint. $20. Duke Ellington Smithsonian box set, 6 lps, NM, $7. Love those box sets!
  3. My wife presented me with the Joe Pass box last night. She says she tries to choose the ones that she won't mind listening to B-)
  4. I don't have a copy of that one; however it is available at Jazz Record Mart for $4.99 for a new copy.
  5. Everything is sold now. Thanks.
  6. Wolff, I found your story interesting. I just sold an lp on Ebay for what I consider a lot of money.I decided to burn a cdr of it as a reference copy, just in case.
  7. I've been using the Mozilla browser for a month or more and I've grown to like it alot. It loads faster and the display looks more vivid, and once you get used to navigating with tabs it's handier.
  8. I have a Sparton issue of Phil Sunkel's Jazz Concerto which was, I think, on US ABC Paramount. I think it sounds great.
  9. This entry from an Oscar Pettiford discography that I found online (sorry, I can't locate the link right now): 4403 (?) Broadcast from the Onyx Club, NYC. Dizzy Gillespie - Oscar Pettiford. Dizzy Gillespie tp, Budd Johnson ts, George Wallington p. Oscar Pettiford b, Max Roach d. · A Night In Tunisia Dizzy Gillespie. Masters of Jazz (F) 43-44 vol. 4. - In 4403 Budd Johnson replaced Don Byas. The group soon broke up. OP stayed at the Onyx. To my knowledge, this cut was introduced to the world by Phil Schaap on one of his broadcasts. Jim - email and I'll hook you up. Pete
  10. i have the Blue Moon cd. this is an excellent record, a very nice vibe going on through the whole recording.
  11. Is that what's on the new "Centennial Edition"? any new Blanton is good news!
  12. He is a somewhat-famous alumni of UNC Chapel Hill. I lived in what was said to have been his dorm room my sophomore year. That was the year I discovered Bird, and Trane, and Miles....perhaps there was a vibe left in the room? Nah......
  13. I know there are some tapes of these in circulation, but I didn't know that any had been issued commercially. Just scanning the webpage I see some under Hans Koller's name, also a few under the NDR Workshop name, which I've never come across. I've heard #2&3, they're really nice.
  14. For sale: Bixology, 14 lp box set on Joker label, everything he ever recorded. Box has a couple of scuffs, vinyl appears NM. $75 shipped in US. To other countries at actual cost of shipment. Checks, money orders, paypal okay. reply to bainbridge@dejazzd.com thanks for looking Pete
  15. I received mine on Monday. I've listened to the first 3 discs. The sound is marvelous, better than I would have imagined possible. I love the clarity of the rhythm section. The music of course is grand. I like the arrangement by which the masters come first on the disc and then the alternates.
  16. I really like the Stockholm cds. Baker's scatting on "Just Friends" (disc 3) is gorgeous (and I've never liked his singing before). Z haven't heard the Quintessence discs yet, but I would think they are similar, given the timeframe. However, the I find the Stan Meets Chet disc much less engaging, FWIW. As for the conflict of personalities, I've read much the same as what Jim wrote. From what I've read, beyond his alcoholism Stan Getz was at bottom a mean SOB, and Chet was somebody he could bully. I'm sure that fact entered into the dynamic as well. Pete
  17. Hi All I'm thinning my shelves a little. These are all nice, grades are cover first/vinyl second. this is not Ebay grading - I am very conservative. Your satisfaction guaranteed. $2 each, 6 for $10, I will entertain offers for larger numbers. Shipping in the US a flat $3 regardless of quantity. To other countries at cost. Checks, Money orders, or Paypal. Email me at bainbridge@dejazzd.com Thanks for looking. 18. wasn't the Phil Sunkel on ABC Paramount, rather than Pacific Jazz? My copy of the lp is on the Canadian Sparton label.
  19. I'm with Randy - that box is a terrific bargain. My understanding is that it duplicates the Classics cds. It sounds okay and the music is terrific. I've worked my way through about 25 of the cds so far, and my only complaint is that one of the cds had the wrong sides on it (1935-36 I think) so I'll have to make that up somehow. Still, for less than $50 I can' t complain too much. It's available here: Sir Duke Box Set for 41.99 + shipping. I like the fact that everything is in chronological order regardless of label.

    making a cd-r?

You can download Feurio and use the cd copy function. I have used it to copy at cdr at 79:59. I have both Feurio and Nero and in most cases I prefer Feurio for burning cdrs.
  21. Has anyone heard the reissue "Ko-Ko" on Dreyfus label? about Ko-Ko This review picqued my interest so I ordered a copy here: Music Selection

Very fine stuff. Pete
  23. Brew Moore on Atlantic (with Tony Fruscella). Warne Marsh unreleased sides on Revelation, also from the Half Note (Verve)
  24. The lady at the bar that has to request tunes she thinks she heard Sinatra sing so that she can be the show instead of the band. The drunk guy that asks our guitar player for "Freebird" or "Margaritaville" (we're a straight-ahead jazz trio).
