As someone pointed out, let them knock down the current football culture to the bone; give them a time-out to restructure from the ground_up. The good players will be absorbed into other programs and play elsewhere. With the fortune they've made on the backs of the student athletes, everyone else gets whatever they signed up for so far as school needs are concerned. Period.

Faulty arguments I think on many fronts. Sorry, the shoe falls on Penn State. Many of the players would play elswewhere....those that don't I do not care. The Montana case is precisely why actions be taken now while the iron's hot and attention is focused. Future possible cases do not matter. Sandusky, under his broad Penn State and surrounding community umbrella, is more than enough to get the ball rolling

I've already heard from a few sports pundits who are asking that Penn State football not be punished; that after all the young men have no dog in this fight....weren't involved in anything pertaining to the case in question. A precident making example, IMO is exactly what's needed, and why not start right there?! Shut down the footbal program cold for 2 years. Let the NCAA get involved and give them the dreaded "death sentence." Let if be known to all by taking actions against the institution that allowed malfeasance of this type, that there will never be anything to gain, and more importantly so much to lose by inaction in such matters; that no covering up to protect image, lighter punishment, or any of the lame excuses for not doing the right thing will cost anyone going this route BIG time. The Sandusky case may be the ugliest thing coming off a college campus sports program in our lifetimes. Point is on all this is to demolish the notion that mistreatment of young people across all peramiters in the cloaked 'good old boy' locker room environment be over, becuase it's not worth it; the price to pay will be too steep.

Larry, The "substantial developments" came today in the form of the 8 month old commission report headed by the former head of the FBI being released, your two cents and voice of reason post , this is NOT going down the same road; rather new developments based upon information carefully collected with persons clearly pointed out who conspired individually and collectively that allowed 14 additional years of attacks on children to continue. This serves to substantially move information forward which may have been the source for argument among rabid former Paterno supporters, put to rest for all with reasonable minds. I said "subsequent substantial developments," i.e. developments subsequent to the release of th Freeh report and what it contains. For example, if Graham Spanier blew his brains out next week and left a detailed "I fess up" suicide note, that would be a subsequent development. I did miss that Larry....thanks for leaving the door open for the *doubters*

Finally, some good news! That doesn't seem like an either/or to me; under either scenario he'd be equally culpable. Remember Joseph Cotton in "The Third Man"? ....or Barry Bonds; roided-up home run hero (to some)

Shame on Joe Paterno. I'm glad he passed away now, for the fact that at his advanced years would have had to go to prison for being at the lead (among others) in allowing Jerry Sandusky to continue his crime spree raping young boys for 14 years in and around Penn State football and it's facilites, and in addition supporting Sandusky's retirement with honors, an his foundation ,which was the breeding ground for fresh victims. Paterno was there so long, that the mention of "all the good he's done" is pretty much negated by the lengthy final chapter. To me it's like a society that builds numerous monuments [Paterno & Sandusky linked forever] which look excellent at first glance; but when you find out were built on the backs of slave labor, the means hardly justify the ends. In addition, In hope a rash of civil suits come down to crush Penn State and everything surrounding the holy football program, the the point that it's totally demolished. The U would survive.....all the footballers would play elsewhere (or not).....take down the Joepa statue....move and and not forget the horrors cloaked under the long reigning manipulitive, controlling, secretive society that he built

The super slo-mo replays makes NBA reffing, and other sports officials look pretty silly frequently. I still don't understand in basketball when a shot is well on it's way, when a defender hits the hand or wrist of a shooter after the launch gets called. Some games or parts of games they "let them play." WTF does that mean? The days when the game was rougher were much better officiated games IMO. They're so afraid a fight will break out, and they have all these degrees of flagrent fouls, which are somehow considered "extreme", regular fouls are frequent and for little ticky-tack touches and brushes. Does anyone remember a travelling call or palming or rotary phones?

Take all 7 Tour de France victories away from Lance. WTF?? How would you like to be the #2 guy (probably retired now) and get told, congratulations you won!? No matter how this turns out, everyone knows and remembers who wore the yellow jersey, who got all the props, the accolades, the fame and nobody remembers anyone other then 'the winner.' Just like in other sports, chalk this one up to being part of the ***steroid era*** and move on dammit!
