What cd/Lp have you played the most often?

It probably was Quadrophenia by The Who

Me too! Hasn't been played much in the past 20 years compared to the 5 years prior (though a boot from the '73 tour gets played instead.) It was a great album to type term papers to as well - drum along with Moon!

My guess is that Bitches Brew would be the most played jazz album.

Most-played LIFETIME album? Hard to say.

When I was five I played the hell out of an Alvin and the Chipmunks single.

Later I used to play Rubber Soul to death. At one time in college I would listen to Another Green World two or three times a day. At still another time I obsessed over There's A Riot Goin' On, and Kind of Blue of course....and let's not forget The Five Royals. How do you balance these off against each other over the period of your life up to now? I have no idea.

Having much more to choose from later in life really favors early acquisitions and perhaps leaves some quality stuff out of the running.

It's probably Bruce Springsteen Born To Run. Coltrane's Africa/Brass, Neil Young Live Rust, Woody Shaw Love Dance, Walt Dickerson Peace and Stevie Wonder Innervisions would be in the running. Might be some Santana, Jim Croce and Elton John in there from my teen years.

I still love 'em all.

In my case I'm sure it's "Kind of Blue"--as unimaginative as that may be.

(I think this is a more interesting question than what is the "best" recording of all time.)

Great question, but not one that is easy to answer, well at least for me.

It would be easier if you had asked 'which track or song?', and could have said 'Hard Land' by Bruce Springsteen.

"Hard land"?

There's a song called "Heartland"

and "The Promised Land"

One of those?

I meant this song:

THIS HARD LAND LYRICS

Hey there mister can you tell me what happened to the seeds I’ve sown

Can you give me a reason sir as to why they’ve never grown

They’ve just blown around from town to town

Till they’re back out on these fields

Where they fall from my hand

Back into the dirt of this hard land

Now me and my sister from germantown

We did ride

We made our bed sir from the rock on the mountainside

We been blowin’ around from town to town

Lookin for a place to stand

Where the sun burst through the cloud

To fall like a circle

Like a circle of fire down on this hard land

Now even the rain it don’t come ’round

It don’t come ’round here no more

And the only sound at night’s the wind

Slammin’ the back porch door

It just stirs you up like it wants to blow you down

Twistin’ and churnin’ up the sand

Leavin’ all them scarecrows lyin’ face down

Face down in the dirt of this hard land

From a building up on the hill

I can hear a tape deck blastin’ home on the range

I can see them bar-m choppers

Sweepin’ low across the plains

It’s me and you frank we’re lookin’ for lost cattle

Our hooves twistin’ and churnin’ up the sand

We’re ridin’ in the whirlwind searchin’ for lost treasure

Way down south of the rio grande

We’re ridin’ cross that river

In the moonlight

Up onto the banks of this hard land

Hey frank won’t ya pack your bags

And meet me tonight down at liberty hall

Just one kiss from you my brother

And we’ll ride until we fall

Well sleep in the fields

We’ll sleep by the rivers and in the morning

We’ll make a plan

We’ll if you can’t make it

Stay hard, stay hungry, stay alive

If you can

And meet me in a dream of this hard land

Che.

For me this is one of the seminal songs I have listened to.

An alternative vision of reality.

My apologies. I should have looked it up first. It's on Tracks, which I've never picked up.

Oh, in answer to the original question, I'm sure it's some album best forgotten from when I was young. And I don't obsess over albums the same way anymore, it seems like everyone else.

But two that are in the running of more adult vintage

The Waterboys - Fisherman's Blues - 1st CD I ever bought

The Pogues - If I Should Fall from Grace with God

Along with the typical array of Beatles

And Springsteen - Born to Run or Darkness on the Edge of Town

I just love the Pogues albums, when I was younger I played "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash" all the time, Just purchased new 'Best Of The Pogues', only because it has a 'live' recording of the boys doing their stuff in London.
