couw
your winrar will continue to function, just that there will be a pop up message each time you open it telling you to register
The Magnificent Goldberg
WINRAR actually stopped working for me, when the freebie license ran out. I use 7-zip, which seems to do quite a lot of things and IS free. http://www.7-zip.org/ MG

jazzstage
7 zip is great. It is all you really need for many kinds of compression. Dan Gould
I've used winrar forever and I don't even get a pop-up guilt box.

WD45
I love Extract Now. That sucker is lean and mean.
Guest Bill Barton
I'd agree that 7 Zip is a good alternative. The only thing I don't care for is that you have to physically type in destination folders for unzipped files (or maybe I just haven't figured out how to get around that.) Same deal here on WinRar. I just get the the little pop-up that you have to close before using it. I don't know whether it makes a difference, but the PC I use to unzip files is not connected to the Internet.
