Hot Ptah
Mosaic will release a 3 CD Select set of Akiyoshi-Tabackin Big Band albums later this year, reportedly the 1974-77 RCA albums.
sidewinder
Should be nice ! I know that there have been a lot of requests for this material to be put on Mosaic from both the old BNBB and also this site so Mr Cuscuna and Mr Wenzel must be watching and taking note. RDK
This is wonderful material! Not sure if I'll race to get it, though, but only because I think I have all the albums. Have to wait for more details.

Free For All
Great news! Some of that band's best moments are from that era IMHO. So that would include: Kogun Long Yellow Road Tales of a Courtesian Road Time Insights Plus, there's a Live @ Newport on RCA from that era. That would be a great Select. HolyStitt
Great news! I have all of them on LP but I would still pre-order this set. Hopefully something to look forward to around Christmas.
John Tapscott
Great news! Some of that band's best moments are from that era IMHO. I have all the albums, but will get this Select for sure. The Live at Newport ('77) is a smokin' disc! But I'm pretty sure it was a Japanese only LP, never issued domestically. As I mentally tally up the playing times of the first five albums, I would be surprised if they had room for a sixth. But here's hoping. Bluerein
It will be studio only I've been told. The Newport sessions are still available on Japanese cd's.
jazzbo
Cool! Have it all. . . will probably buy the Select. Excellent music!
John Tapscott
It will be studio only I've been told. The Newport sessions are still available on Japanese cd's. That unfortunately means that Road Time won't be included. But even with just studio sessions it will be a great set.

Head Man
Does that mean I spent a fortune, learnt Japanese and ruined my eyesight trying to read the mini-LP covers....... all for nothing? Oh no, the set doesn't include the live albums ... wheww, that's all right then! This is magnificent big band music and will be great to have it available again, albeit restricted to those who want to buy a complete boxset. montg
I haven't heard any music from this band but I've been been curious about it for a long time. So I'm really looking forward to this set.

John L
I used to love hearing this band live back in the day. It is great that these albums are finally making it to CD, or at least I don't recall them being available before.
jazzbo
To my knowledge most of these have only been available on cd from RCA Japan.
