My current transport and DAC combo has given me great sound and reliable performance, I actually have two and both have outlasted cd playersI have had trouble-free at least while giving me more satisfying sound overall--and the DAC allows me to use other digital components if I wish (I used to use it with my phono preamp which outputs DSD via HDMI into the DAC).
There are more and more transports available year by year it seems, with a range of prices. I think it may be a good way to go and a good pick for the future.
I was never really a fan of the label despite some intriguing looking releases. The whole often seemed to be less than the sum of the parts, inadequate preparation, less than stellar sound and mixing (I know Cliff referred to no multitracks).
I'm also likely to be needing a new CD player. My existing one ( Primare) is having intermittent issues and is now over 20 years old. I'm very much inclined to go the same route with a CD transport as I've been using a standalone DAC for years (Moon). The DAC nicely handles digital inputs from my Minidisc player ( still gets occasional use) and streaming ( if I can be bothered to connect it !).
