Here's the info on Tete Montoliu's performances from my files (strictly confidential ;) ) :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Date: July 11, 1958

Location: Cannes Jazz Festival, Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France

Label: [television broadcast]

Tete Montoliu (ldr), Tete Montoliu (p), Doug Watkins (b), Arthur Taylor (d)

a. Pennies From Heaven (Johnny Burke, Arthur Johnston)

b. Blues (Tete Montoliu)

c. Fine And Dandy (Paul James, Kay Swift)

Recorded by RTF. Tape exists.

According to JP, this set was not part of the official festival, but an informal jam session. Doug Watkins and Art Taylor were part of the Donal Byrd Quintet with Bobby Jaspar.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

RTF archives incorrectly list Datto Edwards.

Probably part of the mamooth jam session in the last day of the festival. The six pianists played three four-handed pianos.

I guess that what is being published is the "Blues" from July 11.

  • 5 weeks later...

Thanks for mentioning that bonus CD. Did not realize this came with the latest issue. Going to purchase this month's 'Jazz Magazine'.

I have not read the magazine in quite a long time!

I've got a 2 year subscription for my birthday this April... I can't keep up reading it all, but I think it's quite a bit more interesting than any other jazz publication I can find at news shops here (including Downbeat of course). They cover quite a broad spectrum of jazz, and every now and then, they have these "Dossiers" (or had? Not sure they had one since the merger with Jazzman) with lots of photographs.

The disc seems to be all music that's NOT on the official 2CD set (which I still need to buy), so it's very welcome! And plenty of Solal, too!
