  1. I've got better things to do with my time
  2. I always pictured him settling gracefully into old age, maybe writing articles for Readers Digest and doing life insurance commercials like Art Linkletter.
  3. The show was on in the NYC area. A short summary: A big band led by pianist Joe Elefante plays Monday night at Cecil's a club in W Orange NJ owned by Cecil Brooks III. http://www.cecilsjazzclub.com/ Brooks isn't a member of the band but sometimes sits in. They're a plucky bunch of mostly young guys in their 20s and 30s with a few older guys. Some of the musicians may go on to bigger things, but they all enjoy playing modern big band jazz in front of a few appreciative customers in the Jersey suburbs. There were interviews with some band members and Nat Hentoff. They all agreed that big band jazz is a good thing but not especially popular or lucrative.
  4. According to a Nov 30th Nat Hentoff column in the WSJ, the Nightline piece was originally scheduled to appear on Dec 3rd. http://www.opinionjournal.com/la/?id=110005961
  5. "Mr Mingtang, the Letterman Show is on line two..."
  6. Here's another Columbia Spectator story about KCR. There's a clickable photo of Schaap, if you can stand the excitement. http://www.columbiaspectator.com/vnews/dis...7/4214521c1c1c9
  7. Check out the Ross Russell Papers at the University of Texas, Boxes 33-41 http://www.hrc.utexas.edu/research/fa/russell.ross.html as Joe said 20 minutes ago
  8. I wonder what ever happened to the Chet Baker biopic that DiCaprio was supposed to star in a few years ago? http://www.omnileonardo.com/cbaker.html
  9. don't diss welk. sure he can be a little square sumtimes ( that baton waving like a kraut Whiteman, pure bullshit window dressing) but some members of the family can wail. check out myron floron, the cat swings like a mf on the 'ccordian he's a mideuropean/north dakota hendrix without the hippie bullshit baggage, so he doesnt have to kiss the overprivileged ass of the douche bag suburban pimple brigade, ya dig?
  10. Here's my all time favorite AMG mistake. http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&t...gek9ikc6bb39~T4
  11. This might be of some interest http://members.ozemail.com.au/~rodneywaterman/biography.htm
  12. There was a TV movie in 2000 about the Letourneau affair. Apparently it was all her parents' and husband's fault. That's nice to know. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/tv/mary18.shtml
  13. Andrea PEYSER??? The New York POST??? Puh-LEEZ! Sorry, just pretend you didn't see it. A snarky profile in "New York" has never changed my opinion about anyone. I still enjoy Peyser, she's there to give all correct thinking people apoplexy.
  14. The album was discussed here. It didn't seem to wow em http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...=0entry200881
  15. "WAKE me when these hideous things are gone!" One NY columnist is unimpressed, I guess she lacks the vision thing http://www.nypost.com/commentary/21923.htm
  16. Boney in concert
  17. A tip for a first time visitor to NYC--don't get into this cab
  18. I think I get it. People who may think and vote differently than you or I are profoundly stupid. Lets congratulate ourselves for being so much smarter than the cretins who foolishly refuse to accept the truth as we know it.
  19. I'll never forget the first time I read DOAS.
  20. "Civilization and Its Discontents"
  21. I found the clipping in a Syracuse NY newspaper at newspaperarchive.com Do you know about this tape? http://www.billevanswebpages.com/dvd2.html
  22. Have they reused the tapes or discarded footage from this series? I was kind of young at the time, but I remember seeing Mingus on one show and a group led by Rashid Ali on another.
