  1. Justin Robinson - Just In Time: I fondly recall seeing Robinson with Roy Hargrove shortly after Earfood was released and it was one of the best concerts I've attended. On this Verve date, Robinson was joined by the rhythm section of Kenny Barron, Peter Washington and Lewis Nash, with Eddie Henderson, Stephen Scott, Clifton Anderson and Javon Jackson making appearances. The album ends with an alto battle featuring producer Bobby Watson and Gary Bartz. Robinson has released few recordings in the years since, which is a shame. This one is worth seeking out.
  2. Disc 2: I could have picked up the Never No Lament box for a reasonable price on Thursday and passed. I might end up picking up the mammoth Centennial box down the road, so I want to limit my duplicates.
  3. With the Herbie Nichols box newly arrived, I'm feeling Hopeful.
  4. I was out of town and missed this. I'm glad it went well!
  5. The second session with Sir Charles Thompson, Milt Hinton and J.C. Heard. I think I bought this from a forum member for $15. I don't know what led me to this set today, but it is a nice way to spend a Sunday morning.
  6. Duke Ellington - The Okeh Ellington Jack DeJohnette - Earth Walk and Music for the Fifth World Michele Rosewoman - Occasion to Rise Justin Robinson - Just in Time
  7. Do your in-laws like soup?
  8. I am on a Duke/Strayhorn kick, expanding my collection and revisiting albums I haven't listened to in years. My library's streaming service also has albums from Pablo, Capitol, Reprise, etc. I got it good and that ain't bad.
  9. Disc 2: I might start a thread about this box.
  10. Disc 1: I may never find the later Never No Lament compilation for a good price, but this was 5 or 6 bucks well spent, to say the least.
  11. I've enjoyed what I've heard of his playing. I'll have to pull out Afric Pepperbird and Sleeper. Thank you for the music, Mr. Christensen, and rest in peace.
  12. I'm on a Duke kick (in a sentimental mood?) and pulled this out for the first time in years. I may have only listened to it once or twice before.

Billy Hart is a force of nature.

    The Cookers

I've seen the group 4 times, the most recent being last year, and they've lived up to their name every time. Heck, the last time I saw them, Billy Harper opened up with a twenty-minute solo and burned the place down. I'd gladly pay to see any of the members individually or together.
  15. Paul Kogut - Know It? I Wrote It!
  16. I just bought that one recently. It's crazy how the first 6 tracks haven't seen CD reissue otherwise. The first three have some great George Coleman. To be honest, 'Europa', which has a surprisingly loose Alexander, is a little too smooth for my liking.
  17. Call me crazy, but Bill Harris would have been a great sideman for Duke.
  18. With the single-disc compilation really registering with me, I finally pulled the trigger on this.
  19. I need to upgrade to the full Blue Note box, but this is a nice compilation with wonderful notes by Roswell Rudd.
  20. Disc 1: This might be only my second or third trip through this set since buying it 5 years ago. Although the frugal part of me wonders whether I should downgrade to the earlier Columbia sets, the other part of me thinks that it'd be foolish not to have a complete document of this music in great sound.
  21. 7 I'm finally getting around to listening to this after buying it for a buck a few months ago. I just ordered the complete five-disc box for $6.36 including shipping. I am feeling a Duke spree coming on today while on quarantine with the flu.
