  1. Cohen has hard copies for sale on his website. He is the real deal. I'll be seeing him with Benny Golson tomorrow and have seen him with Tootie Heath and his own trio. He'll be playing the Village Vanguard with Ron Carter next month.
  2. Discs 4 and 5, the Mr. Natural session: With a rhythm section of McCoy, Cranshaw, Elvin and Barretto, the groove is so damn deep (and Lee up front!). I only got this set last year (for $50, discs sealed) and it is such a fine set.
  3. Ah, man. As if it weren't bad enough that a few games I'd like to play are only on IOS, now we have a Wood Shaw app only for IOS?!?
  4. Johnny Dodds - Blue Clarinet Stomp
  5. Ah, I need to buy that recent reissue. As much as I hate rebuying music, Solo Piano Record is such a fine album that I need to have the expanded version. Now playing: Charles Earland - The Almighty Burner: Although I usually stay away from compilations, I only have an organ summit with Earland and thought this would be a good pick at $3. I was right. It has tracks from 4 different albums, with 2 not seeing CD reissue and the other two out of print. I see more Earland in my future.
  6. Slide Hampton - Drum Suite: I'd been curious about this one for years before finding it on Amazon for around $3.50 plus shipping. Sonny Stitt - I Should Care: I've been listening to a ton of Stitt and found this on eBay for around $4 with free shipping. For a whopping $10.70, I found these yesterday: Charles Earland - The Almighty Burner Art Tatum - California Melodies Guillermo Klein - Una Nave Christian McBride - A Family Affair Oscar Peterson - Saturday Night at the Blue Note Johnny Dodds - Blue Clarinet Stomp Mark Whitfield - 7th Ave Stroll Bob Mintzer - Spectrum
  7. Thanks for sharing that.
  8. Speaking of language...
  9. When my daughter wakes up and asks for some Stitt, I have no problem obliging her.
  10. There are two cheap HRS Mosaics on eBay. One is $29 with free shipping and the other is $31.49 plus $7.35 shipping. I bought mine two years ago for $30, minus the box and giant book (like these). Anyone even mildly curious about this Mosaic should get it. Although I'd probably like to have the book, I wouldn't part with mine.
  11. Disc 5: This is my 5th or 6th run through this set in two months.
  12. I saw on this album's Wikipedia page where Stan Levey was expecting a nice, relaxed Getz date.
  13. I've been on a Stitt kick and was shocked to see this available new from Amazon for $3.31 and eligible for free Prime shipping. I bought the last copy and the price is back up to $12.98 while it is out of stock.
  14. Is this a confirmed influence? I'm not hearing enough similarity to make me think influence instead of coincidence.
  15. What is the difference between this and the stateside RVG?
  16. Disc 8: I pulled up Google Play Music on my phone this morning and my daughter kept saying, 'Stitt.' She'll be two next month. I'm giving the kid what she wants.
  17. Disc 7: Stitt with Roy Haynes.

    Jack Sheldon

I only have two of his leader dates, The Quartet and the Quintet and On My Own (a duo with Russ Tompkins), but his tone, warmth, phrasing and humor made an impression on me. When rumors of his death after a stroke circulated a few years ago, his response that he was only 'slightly dead' cracked me up. He then dealt with the stroke's after-effects by switching to playing trumpet left-handed. Thank you, Mr. Sheldon, and rest in peace.
  19. There were some positive updates on the campaign a few months ago, so I'd been hoping for the best. Back in the AAJ days, it was nice to have a musician of Vic's caliber interacting with people. Thank you for the music, Vic, and rest in peace.
  20. It'd been maybe five years since I'd last heard this one. I'm just finishing it. This one rightfully received the Mosaic treatment.
