  1. I don't need to come here to read about sex scandals, drug addiction, and mindless violence - I get enough of that at home.
  2. only for the first 16 bars -
  3. there's something about getting such good reviews for Blues and the Empirical that makes me want to retire - but only after just one more - the next thing is another song project - working title: Experiment in Post-Modern Music: Original Sin participants as of today include: Peter Stampfel - vocals (from the old Holy Modal Rounders) Tyshawn Sorey - drums Kalaparush Maurice McIntryre - tenor Noah Preminger - tenor Ursula Oppens - piano Lewis Porter - piano Matt Shipp - piano Darius Jones - alto Ras Moshe - tenor Me: comb Steven Bernstein - trumpet Randy Sandke - trumpet Jon Erik Kelso - cornet Chris Meeder - tuba Kevin Ray - Bass these are all confirmed; hope I have not forgotten anybody; the music is about 80 percent finished; these will be in a number of different combinations; I also hope to film the session. The only thing I can guarantee is that Chuck Nessa will not be able to lsiten to the whole thing -

    Tony Fruscella

Sonny Rollins, btw, liked Fruscella's playing a lot; in one of those "wish I was there" moments, Triglia told me about going to see one of them (don't remember which) and hearing, from outside, Sonny and Fruscella rehearsing together. sigh........................
  6. she's great; Duke was a tough one. He scared me a little bit. Very volatile.
  7. free speech does not give you the right to yell "theater" in a crowded fire.
  8. thank you, I always like to bring a taste of Aristotelian rationality to any conversation in which I partake.
  9. by the way it's a measure of what a dumbass state I live in that the above - about the inter-racial duo recorded in Maine, of all places - has not even registered as a story here. I hate this place. Full of un-curious lame-os and lame-ettes.
  10. methinks Goodspeak is correct. Though I do thing Alcoosiosioosos should be banned until he comes up with a user name that I can pronounce.

    Tony Fruscella

he spent a lot of time in Vegas; there's a very good Cadence interview with him, I think. He's since died.

it's gotta be Triglia's deal; that was Bill. Very selfless is terms of trying to push his friends front and center.

I seem to recall that Triglia told me he produced and got the session recorded that was later issued on Xanadu. But I'm not sure if I am remembering correctly. He loved Fruscella and was always trying to get him out there.
  14. I've always felt Buddy Jones was an unwitting early Western Swingster. Ginnell's book is fine, but only he could do an entire volume on the subject and NEVER mention the influence of African American musicians, Correct me if I'm wrong, but I could find no such reference in his book, IIRC.
  15. my favorite British jazz is an old Black Lion lp with Philly Joe Jones and a bunch of people (may have Peter King on it). Excellent hard bop. Better than their food.
  16. in the spirit of the great Buddah, I agree with everyone here. But as for this being a tabloid story, you have to understand that, in Maine, this is big news.
  17. I'm going to exercise my 28th Amendment rights, make like a tree and go away.
  18. I agree with the fair use clause, but I don't want to piss off Larry until I know for sure he's sent in his Top 10 list.
  19. the story I heard from my aunt, who is the head waitress there (they call her Big Bertha), was that the heat broke down one night so they figured they'd burn some bras for warmth; but things got out of control.
  20. actually, I'm not sure.
