  1. maybe it WAS Bird et al but recorded at the wrong speed - slow it down and play it backwards - that would probably solve the problem-
  2. well, I was always something of a prophet - I thought, oh hell, I'll wait for Quadrophonic.
  3. I'm somewhat bewildered as well, but honored that Cliff has obviously studied my work with a deep and religious conviction -
  4. thank you Cliff, you are as gracious as Karl Rove - and about as ethical -
  5. close - but we're thinking of including every record ever recorded, so it might require a few more cds.....
  6. that's ok - I can give you a time extension -
  7. good, Pete, I'll be in Philly in April so I can drop off that amplifier -
  8. actually, Terry is really Astrid Gilberto, but has changed her name in order to hide from South American death squads - and Stan Getz's ex-wife -
  9. and let us not forget that Francis Davis won a Grammy for his notes to the new edition - just a reminder, boys and girls -
  10. though I invariably get bored listening to the length of cuts by these guys, I love Pukwana's playing. One of the fundamental musical experiences of my life was seeing a quartet with Pukwana and Mongheza in London, summer of 1969 (or 70?) at a British jazz club called the Phoenix - Pukwana was particulary nice, very mild guy, smiley, friendly, I remember. Beautiful musicians.
  11. bumping for the new day - let us give credit where credit is due - can't wait for the Tricentennial Edition of Kind of Blue - with the Edison out-takes -
  12. well, it's like that old question: "Do you smoke after sex?" "I don't know - I never looked."
  13. exactly my thoughts - lets flush 'em out -
  14. it's official - congrats to Francis - he actually went to LA, and went on stage after they opened the envelope to reveal the winner -
  15. his name was Lyle, as I recall - before he was a star I liked Rickles better - he was not "on" all the time - he was very good, BTW, in the movie "Kelly's Heroes."
  16. starting to shoot the documentary this month, I hope; going to NYC in May to video and record in performance: Roswell Rudd, Matt Shipp, possibly Marnie Stern; will shoot in high definition and record at Doug Pomeroy's house. Marc Ribot has agreed to appear, though we have not yet set a date - and than we get on a plane to go visit Cliff Englewood - though he has agreed to appear only with a bag over his head -
  17. thanks - I got it off of a British reissue with, apparently, incorrect info - 1933 makes more sense, however, given the sound of the recording -
  18. "I've been to the prison psychologist - he's figured out my problem." "What is it?" "I like to steal."
  19. "Rhoda, Caroline Kennedy, and Sam Donaldson" Sam's toupee would fall off in the heat of passion -

  21. get it - Bond is a major figure (also a fine if undeveloped alto player as well); great bandleader and this is some of the most important stuff to come out of the British scene, IMHO-
  22. well, maybe I'll have to give this another listen after 25 years. Not to rehash old arguments, but... but now I am a little curious as I haven't listened to this in many a year. I wish I'd snuck a cassette machine into Paul's Mall, because that night he sounded very much like the late 1950s, early 1960s Pepper. this, by the way, is a pic from that date -
  23. cut the CD box in half -
