the march releases with catalog numbers: http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/search/music/adv_1/barcodecatnum_CDSOL-61/category_1/x_0/y_0/

I've said it a number of times on this board, but I preordered "outward bound" and got it a few months back...it really sounds incredible. So much so I got an old friend, who bought the original lp when it came out in 1961 or so, to buy it himself as it was always his favorite album! you bet! your recommendation is what caused me to put it on my list! thanks again...
-
i want more interesting titles to be added. i'll get 'outward bound' and 'conception'. otherwise, there's not much i don't already have that tempts me. unless anyone has a recommendation for one(s) that really shine.
-
probably because you're hoping to enhance your enjoyment of either theses titles, the label, or the artist... after all, i think that's what the purpose of the reissues may be - in addition to introducing the music to a new generation of japanese listeners (whom we can't forget are the demograph for these).

ps: the wetmore is still in print as well: http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/artist_Dick-Wetmore_000000000157016/item_Dick-Wetmore_5595695

http://www.hmv.co.jp/en/artist_Miles-Davis_000000000001032/item_Miles_5392988 this title is in print and also still in the stores. i'm neither a customer of nor have i had the need to order from cdjapan, but i do know they often show a title as 'out of stock', 'unavailable', or 'back ordered' when i've had zero problems walking down to disk union or ordering from an independent shop... i see no reason any of the prestige, blue note, or bethlehem titles should go out of print anytime soon.
-
at this late date, i'm not sure what i can add that hasn't already been said. my shipment arrived saturday and depsite my marantz still being in the shop, i gave 'now hear this', 'grass roots, 'on broadway', and 'the all seeing eye' good listens on the inferior NAD amp (on a cambridge audio azur 851 player, however). i found the transfers and mastering to be very natural; neither quiet nor loud. i could detect a decent soundstage, which will only become more clearly pronounced with the marantz. the reuben wilson title really sparkled... i compared the connoisseur issue of 'the all seeing eye' to the shm and while the connoisseur wasn't awful, per se, it was certainly lacking in the aforementioned qualities, however, only by comparison. having nothing to compare it to, it would have sufficed. i'm saving 'odyssey of iska' and the others for the return of the marantz (sorry to keep using this as an excuse, but...). if this is how universal is going to treat the blue note catalog then it's a very good sign of things to come. on a side note, i'm considering pairing the azur 851 A amplifier with the player, but i'm not sure i'm ready for that giant step quite yet...
-
for those following along at home, my first installment of these "should" arrive today...
-
that's simply a stellar troika of masterpieces with varying qualities. of course they're all deserving of a place in your collection. 'now hear this' and 'a new conception' (as well as several others noted in a much earlier reply) are on their way to me. unfortunately, my humble marantz amp is in the shop; temporarily substituted by an inferior NAD C350...

Same here. I wonder which sources were used for these CDs. i can almost guarantee you that they're japanese safeties that are used as sources. they're just being engineered and reengineered to the ends of the earth.... however, sometimes to great effect.

Which Blue Note CDs did you generally prefer before the SHM reissues?

holy smokes! that's insane! how awful. -

what happened? was this due to amazon increasing the mandatory postage cost for resellers? -
all this talk does n o t make waiting for my first installment very easy...
-
no they're not! you can have them delivered to your local 7-eleven, family mart, or some other retailers for no postage fee.

that title is in a different series altogether dedicated to the somethin' else label that were released in july, august, and september of last year (2013); http://www.universal-music.co.jp/jazz/jazz-label/cat/somethin-else and http://sp.universal-music.co.jp/bluenote/somethin_in_blue/
-
well...yes.
-
when ordering just now i realize i've been confusing 'out there' and 'outward bound' (obviously assuming the latter )....
-
unfortunately, it hasn't been announced yet. at least for this blue note series.
-
i agree. the 20 bit versions (the ones i replaced) do sound compressed, but to me, only by comparison. it sure would be nice to have an original pressing to compare to... when you say 'third wave', are you' referring to those released in 2012 or 2013? 'ballads' and 'a love supreme' were released in november 2013, but 'deeper' titles were issued in march 2012. which brings me to: it would be nice if the shm reissue of the coltrane catalog were handled a little more carefully. the titles issued have been all over the map and hardly in any kind of order.
-
it's available here ( http://snipurl.com/28ioxfb ) for 1,547 yen from an amazon seller...
-
do you have the catalog number? i don't see it in the june or july jazz japan...
-
right - and a superficial one at that.
-
the only other copies of these i had were the 20-bit K2 mini-lp's... and i imagine one would pick up shm-cd pressings of current masterings if they didn't do their research on the state of the mastering or if they believe that the shm material would bring a smoother sound to things.after all, that's its primary marketing edge. keep in mind that these are japanese releases primarily intended for that market. they replace all other versions available and by default become, generally, the only version of that title currently available (unless you happen into a prior issue that either hasn't sold or hasn't been pulled from the racks yet).
-
excellent post. you're quickly becoming the poster boy for shm-cd, which is a good thing, imho. i picked up 'impressions' and 'live at ithe village vanguard' when i was in japan recently, but i've not opened them yet... here's what's in print on shm-cd per hmv; http://snipurl.com/28iocr .
