  1. The basic candy selection at a Canadian gas station can be eye-opening too! I gave in to Tiramisu Kit-Kats (many of which I shared with our mail deliverer).
  2. Well, that's one way, but the pierogies don't have to be potato ones. This was over 50 years ago, so it's a bit hazy, but the gravy was probably some brown sauce slop. I'm sure Windsor was a place where I had it too considering my grandparents ran a restaurant/bar in Windsor. I never understood the idea of "correctness" when it comes to these things (except the idea of them being correctly cooked, of course) - mainly because in the province just next door to where you were - where the idea came from, there are variations that people can't agree on there either. It's like the whole thing about what's "correct" when it comes to pizza toppings. I'm sure someone will be horrified at the idea of my using paneer, frozen pierogies and gravy in vegetable stock, but so what. Also, it's definitely something you don't want if you're concerned about your health. That's why stuff like that has long been out of my life. I'd probably puke if it was put in front of me today.
  3. Because we were Canadian and Ukrainian, pierogi poutine was served at our house.
  4. fork (originally "fart")
  5. Rapsodia para un Cuatro: Venezuelan Instrumental Masterpieces ca. 1973 by Ali Landaeta
  6. Laura Boulton Documentary Indian Recordings from Arizona, New Mexico, Oaxaca, Puebla, Mexico City & Yucatan, April - Oct. 1940
  7. Dry Mountain by Keith Rowe / Gerard Lebik
  8. Yeah, I always try to do that, but this time I added the picture of the back cover as well. (the description has those liners too, so they may be easier to read than the pic...)
  9. and thanks for the reminder...
  10. Physical collection was a nice idea until it wasn't. It looks like hoarding when I step back and look at it objectively. When it comes to selling: am I more interested in "time" or "money"? Take a box a month to the local reseller - or start putting things on Discogs ready to ship later? For me, the music is the thing and I too, have a collection. It's compact and backed up both at home and away. Moving from 20 minutes sides to 80 minute discs was a delight (couldn't imagine having 78s to always turn over and clean). Having constant access thru speakers to music at any time with incredible ease - while doing or not doing anything else - is a great leap forward to me. Was it in that Bowie movie "The Man Who Fell to Earth" where "in the future" you would place a small rotating ball with the world's music on it on a kind of platter(?) and play anything you wanted to hear? Can't remember...it's been too long, but it was an idea that I looked forward to seeing happen (or something very near like it) during my lifetime.
  11. OK, latest info... I seem to get idiots when I talk to people at the local Toyota dealership. The quote of over $9000 was for the navigation system (that I have on the back floor) - NOT for a CD player. I was wondering why I was seeing prices online for used items at $40 to 60 on eBay. So, I just might pick one up on the cheap and have it installed.
  12. The plug-in extension wasn’t the first choice, but no car stereo place would touch a first-gen Prius. They just didn’t know how to do an installation. I think the size of the space in the dash where the 6-disc is installed coupled with the readout screen in the middle of the dash just threw them for a loop. I wasn’t wanting to replace the CD changer (or even the cassette player that still plays), I just wondered if there was a way to play the “new” iPods in my car back then and the closest idea was to do it thru the radio - finding an unused station - and I’ve been happy with that. Yes, it’s FM radio quality, but that just adds to the “freeform” radio aspect of it that doesn’t happen on actual local radio. In rental cars, yes, I just bluetooth it to the car sound system. I think I remember it starting where it stopped, but, again, the idea of it just always running on its own and joining in is more intriguing to me. Thanks for the CD player suggestion. I’ll stop by this place that was recommended and see what suggestions they have about modernizing a car made in 2001.
  13. Didn't know about that difference when it comes to stopping songs in the middle. Actually, I get such great battery life, that at the beginning of my day of driving, I turn it on shuffle and hide it away, so I can leave the car and come back with it still playing like a radio when I start the car. Hours later, I get home and it's gone from 100% to about 90%. The sound I get from the Touch is good, but the tunes are at 320 kbps ... plus, I've got a makeshift plug-in system to listen to it on 89.1 FM radio.
