  1. Saw him too. Wasn't impressed.
  2. Saw them only once - here in Manchester.
  3. I don't think so. It says "recorded at Victoria Theatre, London" and I saw them at the Dominion, Tottenham Court Road, London. Clearly they were in London for a day or two - enough for Monk to make those Black Lion albums.
  4. Yes, certainly the same guy. Those who give up jazz is an interesting topic. I once attended a short university course on Irish poetry and was intrigued when the lecturer used the term "woodshedding", which I'd only heard in a jazz context. Turned out his first area of study had been, not literature, but jazz bass - at Berklee, none less!
  5. Whatever happened to this laddie? In this 2013 album he was able to hold his own at the age of 23 with the cream of the contemporary scene (his father is the label's owner), but googling him now produces a blank ever since. Perhaps he's one of those who preferred a career in law, say, to being a jazz musician.
  6. Saw them in London.
  7. Sadly, located here, those amazing opportunities weren't available to me, Peter, though fortunately many US players did make their way across the ocean. That's an aptly named album!
  8. Ah, how well I remember poetry and jazz! For me in Leeds it was Danny Padmore (bass) and Peter Redgrove (poetry). My favourite on record is Jack Kerouac with Al and Zoot.
