A great read!

The drummer I sat next to was the elderly Eric Delaney on the back row at the Wigan Jazz Festival around 2010. When the local drummer had some difficulty with a 6/8 number, Eric slapped on his knees how it should be done.

I read somewhere that the U S military's demands for manpower became so desperate during the Second World War that Condon declared, "They'll be sending for Pay Way next!"

The times I'm speaking of were around 1960 - in Leeds. A lot of London bands visited. Tony Kinsey was a frequent visitor. It's only recently that I found out he'd gone to the States with Ronnie Ball but, unlike Ronnie, failed to make it and returned. He and Ganley were very accomplished drummers. Joe Harriott is another sideman who comes to mind. I remember talking with him both in Leeds and Manchester.

I think in my day his usual partners were Ronnie Ross and Alan Ganley or Tony Kinsey.

Now that's an outfit I remember. Mr Le Sage always looked very cool with his little pointed beard.

Saw the band!

Any misgivings I might have had about rehearing over-familiar arrangements from the studio recordings were quickly settled by the sensational 21-minute version of "Piano Blues".
