  1. Possibly Tracey played on the date. Acker + Stan = a pair.
  2. Acker Bilk and Stan Tracey looked a hard-to-believe pairing. I've never heard it. Any idea how it worked out?

  4. Not exactly pairings, but some unlikely partners in a highly successful enterprise: Dolphy, Eldridge, Mingus, Jo Jones.
  5. Reading subsequent responses, I see I was concentrating on unexpected/unpromising pairings that came off. Others seem to have interpreted the question dfferently.
  6. Ronnie Scott's recommendation of Elvis Presley Meets Thelonious Monk was of course just a fantasy
  7. Then there's Monk and Pee Wee Russell
  8. Gene Quill 1963
  9. Confession - I don't have it either, but I used to borrow it from a record library around 1960 and I love the cover design and illustration - not forgetting the sublime music, of course.
  10. Very sad. The loss of a link with the classic past of our music.
  11. Certainly didn't look 34. No wonder the doctor who attended thought he was in his 50s.
  12. Yes, now heard Gratitude and I agree. Live dates obviously suit Greg. This from 2010 is my favourite and it's something of a rarity nowadays. Greg told me the company went out of business shortly after - and I hope not because of - this record -
  13. Greg was in great form for the encounter with Gilad Atzmon in Wilmslow on Tuesday. Now giving Gratitude a first listen on Spotify.
