  1. This is a great series. The music has a very unique feel to it. Its got the funk, and its got the jazz. Some raw shit. Makes me want to see Broken Flowers even more now! I didn't know Ethiopiques was featured...
  2. I forgot about New Orbit. I bought a copy about a month ago and I think it got lost in the shuffle! I'll pull it out tonight. I also got a copy of the second Golden Quartet disc and I've been listening to that. New Orbit slipped out of mind. I had a good week... came across the live Air disc on Soul Note that week as well!
  3. What's pretentious about subversion? Or don't you believe in the hypercosmic paradigm of cultural relativity? Seriously, I do find his stuff a little over the top, and I've never read a word! Raining On The Moon is a good listen. That is a fun disc. I think Vint has seen that band live before. Sounded like a good one.
  4. I've never had a problem with these... click
  5. My favorites so far have already been mentioned. The live Spring Heel Jack set, Sustain, Painter's Spring are all excellent. Duds for me have included the Roy Campbell disc It's Krunch Time (with a couple of exceptional moments), and the Good and Evil Sessions (a used purchase that made me more bored than I already was). I really wanted that Spooky Mad Professor collaboration to work, but it rarely does. I haven't listened to the Spooky discs in a long while, but I remember some great and dense collage occuring on some of those tracks. Hey, what's pretentious about making music?
  6. Wow. More information on these?
  7. I've never had any luck taking photos of my paintings. Plus, I've never kept any of them. They are all strung out amongst friends over the past few years. Its always nice to see them again, but they always seem less than I remembered them. The paintings that is, not the friends.
  8. That is great guys. Congratulations! I need to get my ass in gear and order this disc!
  9. I am dreading the news over the coming weeks. This is not about politics people. This is real. As the day goes on, I have this sinking feeling that the aftermath and byproducts of this storm are increasingly worsening.
  10. I am in Kansas City this week and had the chance to visit his gravesite this afternoon. I need to get that Uptown recording!
  11. I don't see how you could get what's so big about Miles with "You're Under Arrest"! Trade it in for something else, like "Miles Smiles" or "Pangaea" or "On The Corner" or "Relaxin'" or...
  12. For some reason, the name Martin Milgrim sounds very familiar.
  13. The city is just not designed to sustain any weather system of this nature. The way the dams are set up around the city, the influx of water from a hurricane has nowhere to go but up. Considering the city is already below sea level, the possible outcome of this storm becomes even more difficult to fathom.
  14. Its not looking good for New Orleans. Can you imagine the disaster that could occur in a city like that? Not good.
  15. Glad to see the brunt of the storm so far has been water... we'll see what happens upon second landfall.
  16. Thanks Tom. Papa Mali was the act that he was drumming for. That's him alright!
  17. I'm almost positive I saw Frosty this winter playing drums for a guy opening up for the Derek Trucks Band in Vail. I had never heard of him before, but he was a hell of a drummer and the guy he was playing for surely made it known that this dude's name was Frosty. What's the story?
  18. Is hip hop over-intellectualized? Wha?
  19. nathan? damn! I haven't seen any posts from you in a long time! Glad to see you around here!
  20. I think I remember reading something from Rooster last week about a trip out of town, so I don't think he'll be around until next week... Anyway, I am boing to be tied up it seems like until Saturday night. I'll have al day Sunday as well and would like to visit the Charlie Parker museum. Anything else you'd recommend? Hopefully we can get a few together on Saturday night!
  21. I'd love to know more about this as well. I didn't know this existed. Thanks for the link!
  22. Well damn! How's that for coincidence! Like I said, I'll be here through next week. Maybe we can catch up then. If not, I'm sure I'll be back!
  23. Paul, I'll be in town next week as well. I'll let you know what my schedule is, if you are around and want to get together. ...and I'm sure I'll be back!
