Clunky, is there a link you can post regarding the Vanguard performances? I didn't even know Moran had another disc coming out! I still haven't picked up Modernistic! I wonder if they will ever post new mp3's to his website. I downloaded all of them last year. The Bandwagon sounds great live!

I'm listening to Figure 8 again tonight. This guy is beautiful. I'm envious DoubleM. I can't imagine a local scene that has a presence this strong. I wonder if I had known about Elliott Smith and musicians like him earlier on. Would I have discovered jazz? Eventually, but I think this music would have snagged me for a while. Either way, I am so glad to have been introduced to this music. Matter of fact, I thanked my friend the other day for hipping me to Elliott Smith. I've wanted to check out Heatmiser for a while now. Sometime soon. First and foremost, I need to buy two copies of Snurdy McGurdy (one for my brother's birthday and one for myself of course) and the NESSA AEC Box (just one, for myself ). Do you guys listen to any other musicians that you would associate with Elliott Smith?

I really like this disc a lot. Very Wayne Shorter influenced sound with a GREAT rhythm section. Where else can we get this lineup?!

After a great day at a small mountain in Vermont with my brother two weeks ago on my old 148 with baseless bindings and soft Morrow boots, I decided it was time to upgrade. I went down to a local shop and took advantage of their late-season sale, purchased myself a brand new RIDE, bindings, and DC boots. I am dying to go this weekend. I can remember riding on a 156, fast, smooth, long turns and free. Although I had one last great day on my shortboard, I recognized the fact that I was riding with unnecessary pain in my feet on that unnecessarily rattling board. The thing was not designed for fast freeriding. It was designed for spinning, something that has less importance to me know than it did 5 years ago. Yes, it has been that long since I last bought gear. I bought a 155 RIDE Nation. Beautiful shape, incredibly light, nice flexibility, extra active edge around the nose and tail. The bindings I didn't put as much stock in. I bought the RIDE LS bindings. Much nicer than the baseless bindings I was strapped into before, but definitely not top of the line. Instead, I put my money into a pair of DC Radians. These boots are incredible. I know they will soften up over the next few seasons, but they are extremely supportive, complete with an air bladder to hug my ankles as tight as I wish. Yes, this is old Reebok technology applied. I have detuned the board and am ready to go. Is this all greek to everybody here, or can I get an AMEN!? That's what I'm talking about. AMEN!

I'm listening to FIGURE 8 for the first time through tonight. I would recommend starting with either this or X/O and working your way back, although if you like his early stuff, you'll definitely dig on this stuff. Much more harmony and many more instruments. I can't decide whether it is his voice or his songs that I like most. I can't really compare him to anyone else, though my Mom kept telling me how much he reminded her of John Lennon. I wasn't alive when John Lennon's music was "contemporary" and she was, so... BTW, she was in love with Paul.

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks - Pig Lib
.:.impossible replied to AfricaBrass's topic in Miscellaneous Music
J Larsen, I wasn't around from the beginning. In fact, a friend made me a mix tape with a bunch of Pavement in 99, the year they decided to call it quits. I have since snatched up most of their CDs. I can understand your waining interest in their music, as it drastically changed over the ten years they were together. I love the early sound of Pavement, but I also love Brighten the Corners, even Terror Twilight! They all offer something different. The S+E Luxe and Reduxe is so great because it includes live recordings from the era. I hope Matador continues with this trend and releases live recordings from each recording era. I think I'll go out and buy Pig Lib today. -

Anyone know of a Mac version of this software? -
I never really had any direct fire with anyone at the Blue Note board, but I did avoid certain topics and certain posters. I sometimes felt ignored over there at times, which is really no big deal. I just stayed away from the bickering as much as possible. I am really glad to have a place to check into every so often, knowing that many of the more interesting (in my opinion) poster are here. Thanks again B-3er.

I'm on the right track. If you are using photoshop, "save for web." A few tweaks later...

Jazzmoose, I can only imagine that you are already a Mingus listener since no one has mentioned his music yet. If not, I would definitely recommend a classic Mingus recording like Blues and Roots or something from the Johnny Coles, Clifford Jordan, Eric Dolphy front line. Especially if you aren't so familiar with Dolphy. Mingus had his roots firmly planted and his branches fully outstretched. I would also recommend the live Sam Rivers trio disc on impulse! Free and funky. The Blue Note stuff is also great. I'm trying to think of something that is truly free... How about some ESP recommendations guys? Sunny Murray anyone?

Thanks guys. I absolutely forgot about this thread! I appreciate the feedback. Believe me when I say $250 is more in my price range than $2000. One day... Tomorrow I am buying a 155 Ride Nation, new Ride bindings and 32 boots, all for under $500! That's right, $500. rIDe natION

I know a lot of people are anticipating this event. I think Dmitry raises a great question. This is probably an unprecidented occurrence. I'd bet a lot of people have their ear to the bottom of a glass pressed up against the wall with curiosity. And to think Henry Grimes didn't even realize he was remembered by anyone. I think with enough desire along with the support of our small public, Henry Grimes will feel increasingly encouraged to practice and get back. Here's to him and everyone that is helping.

Upcoming Performances In New England
.:.impossible replied to .:.impossible's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Yeah, kind of funny though. We're creeping down a poorly lit street, counting the street addresses, stop, back up. 37 Everett Street. Looks pretty quiet. There's a dog in the backyard. This isn't the art gallery I had imagined. That V5 show sounds like fun. I don't know if I'll make it up there for it though. Next time, I take the train. And a map. Glad to hear you survived your midterms Bigwheel! -

Well, we never found the damn place. Turns out there are at least 3 Everett Streets in Boston. Mapquest gave us directions to the wrong Everett St. We ended up driving around for an hour, calling some friends and going out for beers instead. How's that for a review? Oh well. Looking forward to the next one. -

Here's another killer website that lists great music in the Boston area: Twisted Village Tonight we are going to see Central Artery Project (Chris Allen, trombone; Charlie Kohlhase, saxophones; Curt Newton, drums; Dave Choi, bass) / Nate McBride Quartet (Taylor Ho Bynum, cornet; Charlie Kohlhase, saxophones; Curt Newton, drums; Nate McBride, bass.) mim series presentation: Artists-At-Large Gallery. If you are there tonight, just use the adjective "impossible" in conversation during set breaks. I will be listening for it. -
What? No hello Cary?

I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong... my image is now weighing in at 20K, less than 100 pixels up and over. I think the board is rejecting my graphic design.

I wanted to upload an image from my hard drive, but I was unable to. Anyone else having the same problem?

I'm in good company over here. Good to see familiar usernames! What's up everybody. I don't think I've ever visited the allaboutjazz.com bulletin board, but I've always enjoyed reading B-3er's posts at Blue Note, so it made sense to me to check this place out. Great job Jim! I like all of the extra features this board has, the company is most important though. Feels like a fresh start! Sitting back, listening to the head of Limbo from Sorcerer right now, thinking about a bowl of ice cream!

A co-worker (good friend actually... scratch co-worker) turned me onto Elliott Smith X/O about a year and a half ago and I've been snatching up all of his albums ever since. Is anyone else on this board listening to Elliott Smith?

Hello all. Does anyone have any advice on smaller speakers. What to avoid, what to look/listen for? Any particular models that you would consider a steal? I'm not audiophile level, so keep that in mind. Even recommendations from all you regular people out there would be very much appreciated! Thankee.
