  1. That's more like it!! Less than $15 shipped. I placed my order. :rsmile: Seems like a data entry error, but what the heck. We'll see if BestBuy lives up to their mistake. That's it --- you fell victim to the plot to get you to order a copy!
  2. Same ones that appear on Art Tatum records! The Peterson gaps are louder. Point taken --- but no more noticeable.

  5. It really is a beautiful set! I think it's funny that they packaged each of the extra ITTOD covers in separate plastic sleeves, as well as the alternate LZ1 cover. I now have a few duplicate CDs that will end up in the sale/trade pile, but it seemed like the best way to get everything, at a good price. re: ITTOD, I am almost curious enough to dab a wet cloth across the inner sleeve of this one, to see if the colors show up, like they did on the original LP sleeve. Not gonna do it though. I'm wondering if this set sounds markedly better than the Led Zeppelin 10-disc box set put out in 1993 (remastered by Jimmy Page, I believe). Have you heard those for a comparison? I had the 1993 box set, which I enjoyed a lot, and had very good sound. The new box set is better sound wise, but as Lon said, it's not a "new Beatles" kind of improvement. I'm a Led Zeppelin sicko, so I had to get this for the whole package it presents: Improved sound, great graphic reproduction, the extra album covers, all that. * Sigh* I love Led Zeppelin, watching the DVD last night reminded me what a monster Page was on the guitar. Great power riffs flowed out of his guitar effortlessly. A-freakin'-men. Those industry insiders (musicians, etc.) in the know recognize the greatness of Zep. Has been no band like them since --- and there never will be.
  6. NYC, Could you be talking about the best city on Earth? Probably not. Because that would be Basel. Touche, but you must have some love for the center of the universe, given your handle. No?

  8. Us jazzheads shouldn't care; we've been listening to HORRIBLE sounding jazz recordings for years ---- and loving every minute of it.
  9. This is Sony's repricing and phasing out (deleting) of the titles that are left in their Legacy series. This album was NOT remastered after 1992. In fact, I gave up waiting and bought a Japanese version. The Weather Report albums Weather Report, I Sing the Body Electric, Live in Tokyo, Sweetnighter, Mysterious Traveller, Tale Spinnin', Black Market, Heavy Weather, 8:30 and Mr. Gone were all "DSD remastered" according to CD Japan (scroll down to "description"). I have two of those remasters, Mysterious Traveller and Tale Spinnin', and they were both "DSD remastered" by Mark Wilder at the Sony BMG Music Studios, NYC. As far as I know Mr Wilder remastered all the albums mentioned above. I didn't check if any of them were released in the United States. Some of the Weather Report albums were indeed remastered for release in the States. Heavy Weather, Tale Spinnin' and Black Market among them. I believe there were 6 in total. A check of each album at Allmusic.com should reveal which ones have more than one release year.

  11. Tyler is a Jagger wannabe --- big lips and all!!! Now there's another white guy singing the pseudo blues.
  12. Like John Bonham. I'd say he swung. IMHO John Bonham did NOT swing...one of several reasons I don't like Led Zep...but on the other hand, denying their influence or that they did speak to many people in a way they don't speak to me, would be totally irrational, VMMV, etc. Does music need to swing to be good?
  13. I was referring to Pat Haden!
  14. I think it kicks butt. I had a music humanities teacher at Columbia that analyzed side two for us. He compared it to the way that Haydn strung together themes and melodies. It may be a bunch of unfinished songs strung together, but the way in which it's done is pure genius. For the first time, Paul's bass playing really sounds great as well. And no, side two was not George Martin's creation. He may have suggested that they string the unfinished bits together, but in the end, the musicians made it happen.
  15. Abbey Road has always been my favorite. I think it displays more "musicianship" than any other Beatles album. This is followed by Rubber Soul (US version) and Sgt. Pepper.
  16. And there you have it. That's why everyone who can afford it has jumped all over the mono box. The first two albums are only of historical interest to me. HDN, BFS and H are hugely enjoyable but... It's Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt P (with reservations), the White Album and Abbey Road + the singles album that are the big atraction for me (I've not heard 'Let It Be' as an album ever!...should be remedied in the next couple of weeks). Mono, stereo, cylinder disc, download...doesn't enter into the equation for these ears. Ah! now here is where tastes differ! Please Please Me to my ears is one of the greatest power pop records of all time, I love it! I always return to PPM when I need a jolt of rock 'n roll. Listening to these box sets has caused me to "rediscover" early Beatles. Those first 5 albums are definitely loaded with charm and great R 'n R for me again. However, this rediscovery does not deter me from the opinion that their later albums are their best musically --- Rubber Soul on up is where it's at for me. I am still kind of befuddled as to why many Beatles fans find Revolver to be their best offering. Can this really be said about an album that has "Yellow Submarine" on it? "Revolver" IS their best album. Yes, it has "Yellow Submarine" (which I think is a perfectly charming track), but it also has "Taxman," "Love You To," "Tomorrow Never Knows," "She Said, She Said," "I'm Only Sleeping," "Doctor Robert," "Eleanor Rigby," etc., etc. "Taxman" has to be the best opening track since, well, "I Saw Her Standing There" on "Please Please Me"! (It still amazes me that only three years separate those two albums. And notice that both start with a count-in!) You say this as if it's a given!!! Mileage varies, as they say.
  17. It's funny, I was talking to someone today who claimed that neither the Beatles nor Led Zeppelin had ANY influence over today's music. I, of course, told him that he was crazy. And he called me a "flower child" for even liking the Beatles As a child of the 60s, I would consider that a high compliment. Yeah, but I'm afraid he didn't mean it that way. I think he was calling me an old fart

  20. Glad you're enjoying it. Many people were upset that Rhino chose to import this, and not the SHM set from Japan.
  21. That's it, I'm convinced!!! Lon and NeveronFriday are actually the same person

    John Lennon

Yeah yeah yeah on "Yer Blues!" As well as the off-meter buzzsaw-sounding solo on "I Call Your Name." I agree that Lennon's guitar-playing is underrated, and I would also argue that one could make the case that Lennon was one of the best rhythm-guitar player ever, right up there with Chuck Berry and Keith Richards. Agreed. Lennon could definitely rock. Played a hell of a lead when given the chance. One of my musical heroes, and the reason my daughter is named Julia!
