  1. He's a regular David Letterman, that guy. Too bad. I liked him as a baseball analyst. I liked Harold Reynolds too. Why is it guys like this can't keep it in their pants? He's got a wife and three kids for cryin' out loud. I would imagine we've seen the last of Mr. Phillips. ESPN needs to hire more guys like Jon Kruk. Up over and out. Funny --- I hated him as Mets GM, Mo Vaughn and Roberto Alomar debacles notwithstanding!
  2. I hear FLW was an avid roller-skater! I wouldn't be surprised. Although this is a wonderfully designed building, it was always my least favorite NY museum. Speaking as a lifelong New Yorker, of course.

  4. I think it was mentioned earlier but I believe Lennon said something to the effect that if you haven't heard Peppers in Mono you haven't heard Peppers. Harrison said he only heard the Stereo version on the 70's and didn't like what he heard. I've said it before but I never really liked Pepper as a whole album before I heard the Mono version on the new re-issue, I liked some of the songs but the whole thing just seems to flow better in Mono. And "She's Leaving Home" is like a different song in Mono. However, if you're on a budget I think you can avoid "Let It Be", it really is the worst of the lot, when you read a few of the books mentioned in this thread and find out the circumstances under which it was recorded, it's not hard to see why. Phil Spector's involvement didn't help either!
  5. Don't you mean too many BLUE notes?
  6. Ok, how 'bout a Neil Young thread? A little Homegrown anyone?
  7. God, now all we need is a Hendrix thread!
  8. Well, what are ya waiting for? Put it there already!
  9. What happened to the DeFranco/Clark Mosaic I could've sworn I saw on your list?
  10. The league should decide to play both championship series' entirely in CA!!! The weather in NY sucks, btw. I can't remember the last time I wore a winter coat in October.
  11. I house my mini-lps in file storage boxes. This works well for me. No need to get the Miles box.
  12. Not so. On a US dollar basis, it's about even with Amazon Canada, and considerably less than Amazon US.
  13. How about George Harrison's immediate post-Beatle release, All Things Must Pass? I don't have it (yet), but I've heard from others that it along with Lennon's Plastic Ono Band is one of THE essential post-Beatle recordings to pick up. I have the latter, but I haven't fully warmed up to it yet. I have to be in the right mood to listen to it. IMHO, George put out the best stuff, post Beatles. All Things Must Pass is essential. I still have the vinyl, with the Apple Jam label on the 3rd record in the set! Nah, doesn't do it for me. We're all different. But we're all brothers and sisters
  14. Yeah, I heard Sterling and her once while out one night...just once...and I am still scarred from it! he didn't seem so bad when he did Braves games, but back then the braves sucked..... I'm a Yankee fan and Sterling &Suzyn Waldman are HORRIBLE!!!! One local writer here calls them 'Ma & Pa Pinstripe'. You should've heard Sterling when he called Islander games during their first few years in the NHL........."goal, Islander goal, Islander goal, Islander goal......" What an annoying little howdy doody prick. Btw, how does Suzyn Waldman explain growing up a Red Sox fan, and ending up as a Yankee homer? I HATE the Yankees........................................

  16. I was a Beatles FANATIC growing up, probably due to my older sister's influence. I was 8 when "McCartney" came out, and of course, had to own it. I still think it's his best solo effort, although I own a few others. Lennon is a different story for me. He's a musical hero of mine. Love his lyrics and his sly sense of humor. As a matter of fact, I think I mentioned before that I named my daughter "Julia" after Lennon's mother. Would have given her the middle name of Prudence, but my ex-wife promptly rejected that idea When the music press began comparing Kurt Cobain to Lennon, I gave up on rock and roll as it was at the time, and started my journey into the world of jazz. So, indirectly, John Lennon is responsible for my being close to bankruptcy
  17. So.......anyone got their checkbooks out yet?
  18. That's good because it's OOP and probably difficult to find at a reasonable price.
  19. Whaaaaaat? You don't like silly love songs? Look for the 4 cd Lennon retrospective boxed set that came out in 1991. That's all you'll need: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&a...10:k9frxql5ldae
  20. Dave, you're right about those line drives, they can be very tricky. It looks like Holliday got caught in a bad glove position -- he could not figure out whether to go above or below the ball with the glove, if you know what I mean. Now hold on a minute, quit making excuses for the guy, try and remember that after he bumbled the ball, he also stumbled on his own feet and took a belly flop that would put him in the Keystone Cops movies. The ball hit him in the chops, fer God's sake. It's as foolish as I've ever seen an outfielder look in all my time watching baseball. I hope the Mets do NOT go after him. At Citi, they need outfielders who can actually field.
  21. You're welcome. Enjoy!
  22. Boy, what a thread-stopper that JETman is!
  23. Happy birthday to John (would've been 69) and Sean (34)!!!
  24. This set, and the other two, have reminded me how much Trane kicked butt, even early in his career. The Atlantic and early Impulse stuff have always been my favorite periods, but the Prestige recordings are moving up the list with a bullet.
  25. Eh? Off of which exit do you live? Which subway are you closest to? Or do you have some kind of MetroNorth or LLI thing happening? Let's not get into a public "thing". You know the real deal!!! Actually, I don't. I have noticed that some New Yorkers have some "issues" about state lines. What ever. For reasons obvious to those who live in the tri-state area.
