  1. The Charly LP contains the same eight tracks that are on the Red Bird compilation. Apparently that's all there is. It also contains ten tracks recorded for Imperial, six of them originally unreleased.
  2. We are two towns away from Revere. It doesn't look like we got that much to me. My guess would be closer to 6 or 8 inches. Of course, I haven't set foot out of the house yet.
  3. Paul Winchell Jerry Mahoney Knucklehead Smiff
  4. Thanks for the answers, Stefan. I was so sure I had #3, and I'm surprised about #7, a musician I usually like. That's what so great about these BFT's. We get a chance to reevaluate musicians we take for granted, and to have our eyes (ears) opened about musicians we may have ignored or taken lightly in the past.
  5. It's not stereo. If the individual disc is mono, that would be an improvement over the box, which is rechanneled stereo, perpetrated by Pablo in the 1970's, and carried over by Fantasy when they issued the CD version.
  6. I agree completely. It's the Ray Charles-esque testifying vocals and the funky New Orleans feel that makes him so special! And he can play some git-tar too.
  7. Blind Lemon Pledge Blind Melon Chitlin Melanie
  8. There's plenty of live Tatum out there. I highly recommend "God Is In the House" originally on Muse, currently on High Note.
  9. Mary Kay Place Loretta Haggers "Baby Boy" Charlie
  10. Thanks for the link. I saw Alvin Robinson with Dr John back in the 1970's, and have managed to gather many of the singles he put out on various labels over the years. One of the best unknown New Orleans guys! Charly released a nice LP of his Tiger/Red Bird/Blue Cat stuff back in the 1980's - "Shine On" (Charly 1181). Don't know if it ever made it to CD.
  11. Weather people are saying 6-12 inches of the white stuff starting about midnight. Fortunately I don't have to leave the house tomorrow!
  12. The show started at 8; the Sly tribute began just before 10; Sly appeared just after 10, so about 2 hours.
  13. The above is a compilation CD that contains one track (Tippin') by Horace's group. This is the only recording of the lineup with Louis Smith - would love to get the whole set some day!

  17. quote name='tatifan' date='Feb 9 2006, 12:59 PM' post='470678'] Anyone have a yea or nay on the Red Garland "Keystones" album??
  18. These all star spectacle train wrecks are typical Grammy fare, and have been for some time. Does anyone know - was that Greg Errico on drums? Could've been him.
  19. Dorsey Burnette Charlie Barnet Tony Bennett
  20. The track was not known to exist and was not listed in discographies until one turned up in the 1970's and was issued on a Phoenix LP. I believe that there were very few copies pressed. I've had 20-30 copies of the Guild 78 pass through my hands over the years, and it's always the common (Parker) take. Of course, once something is issued, then it can be dubbed and reissued to death, but the original is still rare.
  21. Real, as in his real hair? I don't think so. A sad and pathetic segment, but what were we expecting?
  22. Very rarely - sometimes on a long road trip I want to take a leak, grab something quick, and get right back on the road, but this is only a couple of times a year. I confess that I occasionally grab a breakfast sandwich at Burger King if I'm running late.
  23. Oh come on, we all know that Mariah Carey's success is all about talent.

  25. Burl Ives Charles Ives Yves Montand
