  1. I had the album years ago - didn't bother to keep it, even though the personnel is intriguing. Cromer is a deep-voiced balladeer a la Billy Eckstine & Arthur Prysock.
  2. Mine arrived today!

  8. Actually he's playing a Conn Multivider, a device similar to a Varitone, I guess. I have the album, and I shuddered when I read that he was playing the gizmo, but the electronics do not dominate. Frank's playing is as fluid and as inventive as ever, and the notes he's actually playing are way out in front of the tones produced by the Multivider - much of the time one doesn't even notice the added tones. Caveat - apparently the actual tape was rather short, so we are given full length and edited versions of two of the tunes in order to stretch the program. Still, it's new music from one of the greatest trombonists, so I welcome it, warts and all.
  9. Not that I know of. I believe he had dropped off the music scene.

Great video! That looks like a young Eddie Condon second from right.

  14. I heard from a reliable source that their European distributor recently went belly up owing the label a large amount of money. Whether they can survive this setback remains to be seen.

  22. I'm somewhat amused, happily, that there is excitement about this set, and that Mosaic considers this music worthy of reissue. At the time these records came out, nobody bought them, and they were considered stiffs (from a sales standpoint) at the time. I know, I'm a dealer, and they did not sell! I saw the group live around 1992, and they burned! The "Live in Tokyo" (which apparently is not included) is probably the best thing this group released. Anyway, I'm glad that a new generation of listeners is getting achance to hear this music which was largely ignored at the time. I don't recall any electronic drums - I guess I'll have to go back and listen again.

I read the Ralph Berton book years ago. Although it was titled "Remembering Bix" ( I think), it was more about Ralph than Bix.
