  1. OK. I feel the need to clarify my agreement with JETman and clifford, not the OP.

    Steve Lacy

Yeah, still need to pick that one up. A second volume, Lost In June, was released last year.
  3. Gonna have to throw my agreement in on this one, though I admit I'm at a loss to think of many other saxophonists to come up at the same time (early/mid 90s-ish), besides the more obvious names like Josh Redman and Harry Allen. Greg Osby, I guess.
  4. Guessing the Formanek - Small Places is gone, but PM ...

    Steve Lacy

Yes yes yes on the Soul Note box. The Monk albums are very nice, as are the sets with Waldron but my favorite Lacy material of all is his trio stuff. The Flame and The Window from the box are incredible. Blinks, another top shelf Lacy record on Hat, is in print. Its cut down from the original 2xLP/CD but you can't miss.
  6. Yeah, I'm not holding my breath then...
  7. How long did yours take to arrive. Still waiting for a shipping notice a week later.
  8. What are your impressions of this one, brownie? I've always meant to get it, and I will one day certainly, but the idea of Konitz playing Hill still baffles me.
  9. Composition no. 19, performed outdoors at the World Financial Center in NYC, 2006. Video on YouTube and downloadable recording available via New Braxton House Records.

    Ornette at 80

Yep. FWIW one of the first Ornette albums I got, and the first one I really listened to, was Golden Circle Vol 2, so I became instantly accustomed to it rather than opposed to it in any way.
  11. So anyone know how much of the coveted New York Sessions album is included in this set?
  12. Thanks. I think I'll pass on the Blakey but may yet get the Chet Baker.
  13. Regarding those 4xCD Blue Note sets: are those in individual jewels or are they flat cardboard? Or is there no individual packaging for the albums at all? The Blakey has three I need, but I'd like to just file them along with my regular Blakey stack.
  14. Sounds great. Houston isn't so far away, but with a two year-old and a job that affords no time off, neither travel nor concerts are options. Enjoy.
  15. Beautiful, Jeff.
  16. To be fair, I don't think anyone is really defending this stuff. My wife's dad loved "Keytar Chick" back in the day so she's always incredulous when I listen to him (which is to say the "good" ones). That is one mental hurdle she can't jump!
  17. Paul (or someone): was that Marion Brown material reissued on the Arista Duets album, or Soundways a whole other album?
  18. Still digging for those Lewis duos. Very, very tough to find. Find at a reasonable price, that is.
  19. I listened to this one door-to-door on the way home from work last week. It was late, I was tired, and it was raining very hard, but the music was very centering.
  20. Braxton/Parker/Rutherford - Trio (London) 1993 Braxton/Diamond Curtain Wall - Trio (Victoriaville) 2007 Bynum/Morris/Schoenbeck - Next Dixon/Lacy/Koglmann - Opium McPhee/Jaume/Boni - A Future Retrospective, Tales & Prophecies
  21. Just ordered two great-looking cross-pollinated releases: Aquarius by Nicole Mitchell on Delmark and Unknown Known by Josh Abrams on Rogue Art. Both feature the core trio of Abrams, Adasiewicz, and Frank Rosaly with Mitchell and David Boykin respectively.
  22. I know what you mean. I came to jazz & improvised music being burned out on rock music, so the last things I wanted to hear were guitars and vocals. Now, of course, that's far from the case. God, lets not even get into things I thought I didn't like in jazz at the beginning... But OK, I'll embarrass myself: Anything pre-bop Guitar Electric instruments Anything after the mid-60s Louis Armstrong Oof. But like you I came after having my fill of rock, and my mind was a bit conditioned in certain ways.
  23. Strangely, Mingus Ah-Um. I liked "Better Git Hit..." and "Fables" but the rest just kind of glossed over my ears; I much preferred Presents, Black Saint, and Pithcantropus Erectus. But one day it just came together. I might still like those albums better, but I listen to Ah Um more often.
  24. You think that's bad... http://www.dustygroove.com/item.php?id=rfbs8sx7m5&ref=featured.php&refQ=cat%3D5
