  1. What Clifford said. I've passed up Akisakila at $25-30 many times. Need to go in for it eventually.
  2. Any records available?
  3. Recent releases by Nicole Mitchell, Josh Berman, Frank Rosaly, Josh Stein, Jason Adasiewicz, Ernest Dawkins and others are among the best around. I always look forward to what they've got.
  4. Sounds great. Also nice to see John Lindberg involved.
  5. I'll take Etcetera.
  6. Have you heard Absolute Zero? If Foxy was Irabagon's display of extended time playing a la Rollins and Trane, then this is his display of extended technique a la Parker and Mitchell. It's breathtaking.
  7. That's a shame, especially since you can ship a single CD for less than $2.
  8. The update scheduled for May has been pushed back to at least September. What a shame :/
  9. That's wonderful.
  10. I confess I didn't know this. Interesting.
  11. Is Konitz the living (name) jazz musician with the longest working career? His first work is with Teddy Hill in 1945, 68 years ago. That's amazing. The recording ban just prior makes this tough, but did anyone else of note who's still alive record before then? Roy Haynes, Sonny Rollins, & Barry Harris are close but all three played bebop, whereas Konitz was still working in the swing/big band idiom, which makes it a bit more impressive still; such a link to such a particular time.
  12. Nice slice of Iowa jazz history, thanks Chuck. Do you recall where Little Bills was?
  13. It's a crime that Bley's Savoy sides are not available. Seriously one of the major oversights out there.
  14. Got the CDs yesterday, and enjoy them both, the Wheelhouse more on first listen. Ive only heard Rempis as a sideman, and he has no trouble sustaining ideas or interest at length. I do wish the Phalanx group was a bit more rhythmic & groove-based with the two drummer approach, but we must accept the art as its presented, not as we wish it was. All the more reason to go back. I'm looking forward to seeing what else he puts out.
  15. Well, I think I might've tainted the sample with some Ellington and Prez here and there. Next time, though! Really though, I do hope my son grows up with an appreciation for jazz, or at least at fondness for having grown up around it. But we'll see when we see.
  16. Jimmy on tenor in 1965 was something else entirely. Post-Trane, post-lots of stuff.
  17. I think my 2 y/o is the unwitting volunteer ...
  18. Bump again.
  19. It doesn't help that the projects are more than certain to be milquetoast.
  20. Early in my jazz listening I came across a copy of one of his duos with Davis. I was very excited to hear it as RD had caught my ear, but alas when I got home I found the wrong LP was inside. Never did replace it, but he seems like a nice player.
  21. I got a swift reply from Rempis; the discs are shipping out tomorrow so no need to wait!
  22. Looks nice, I'll put in for those. My acquaintance Jon did the design for them. He also does a lot of work for Delmark.
  23. Never seen that one. Is that a rerelease of a better known session?
