  1. I watched the footage the other day, coincidentally. Sounded just as strong as the first meeting! Thanks for the heads up on both releases.
  2. Sure...when will you be in Louisiana?
  3. That's a good session.
  4. Thanks for the heads-up. I've been waiting for this since reading about it in the notes to the Group Live CD.
  5. I hear you. I don't have a ton of his records, and am still picking them up here and there. He's getting older, but I always find him to be engaging. That said, my primary interests here are Jon Irabagon & Matt Mitchell.
  6. Yes, one of my favorites of recent years.
  7. This one is out today. I've just put in an order. Same group as last time, but without the vocals. Be Still was great, but I'm looking forward to hearing the band on its own. Anyone else grabbing this one?
  8. I'm glad they've decided to do more physical releases. I wish they'd put out a CD/DVD box of the 2011 Tricentric festival.
  9. An acquaintance of mine has been helping get it ready. I'd love to go. ICP was there the other day, looks very nice from the pictures I've seen.
  10. Two new ones on the horizon from Taylor Ho Bynum: Duo (Amherst) 2010 DVD w/ AB and a new Book of Three recording, which is very exciting to me. FYI, there's a live recording from the night before their Rogue Art session on his website.
  11. This set is still available from Mosaic at $80. That said, it's very much worth your time and money. But this is worth pointing out.
  12. I've liked the Stones for years but have been cautious about getting too many and weaker sets ( ie the earlier and later material ). I'd also avoided "Exile". I caved in last year and can't believe just how good it is. It's right up there with "Aftermath" and "Let it bleed". What other Stones' title did you keep? Between the Buttons. Probably not one of the top Stones records on anyone else's list. Mine! The UK version, in particular.
  13. I've been burned many a time myself. That's a global market for you.
  14. What's available at any given moment may be spotty, but Dusty Groove keeps Marge/Futura albums steadily in stock, too.
  15. My favorite Dorham by far is the Cafe Bohemia material. I never quite warmed to the other 50s stuff on Riverside & the like. I still haven't heard the Matador/Into Somethin' sessions.
  16. Lets not forget KD holding true on Point of Departure. He let Dolphy, Hill, Davis, and Williams do their thing, and did his thing within it (though I know there was a bit of tension at the session). Also Complete Communion!!
  17. I agree with everything here, but would add Out To Lunch and Open Sesame as truly outstanding achievements. I like Blue Spirits, too FWIW.

    Evan Parker

Squidco has it at $15.95. Bargain basement for avant jazz vinyl these days, says a man weary of the seemingly standard $25-30 price tag on most recent titles in memory.
  19. Jeff, do you remember how much it cost? I'd be curious.
  20. I bought the contents of the JMac Mosaic in one fell swoop, and same with the 4 or so early titles I was missing. I think I just need Demon Dance, Bout Soul and SSS now. Jackie will do that to you.
  21. Yes, the Freddie Hubbard group with James Spaulding and Ronnie Matthews was described as a working group in the notes for one of the BNs ... Hub-Tones, maybe?
  22. I am shocked and apalled that Dodo Greene remains neglected as well! But in all seriousness, someone needs to put Portrait of Shiela back in print.
  23. Perhaps he's making the point that while GG was a pretty straightforward, in the pocket player, he worked with some of the hottest, most searching musicians of the time. I love Green's playing, but his (I'm assuming) choice in sidemen certainly helps bump his sessions up a notch.
  24. The new ECM box set is up for pre-order at Amazon. The outer box is essentially the Conception Vessel cover, but the individual CDs are still in plain slipcases.
