  1. Yeah you got good points. I was also thinking that he doesn't respect the kats who are playing bebop. Because bebop hasn't changed that much over time.
  2. The following is a quote by guitarist Pat Metheny, about his reactions towards the Ken Burns Jazz Documentary. "It's nice to know where your history came from, but jazz is about moving foward." Do you agree with that. I mean, it is nice when jazz moves on and is kept fresh but, I got the idea that Metheny doesn't want to listen to or play the likes of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. I don't know how to explain it, but that quote just gets me going, and I practically lost all my repsect for him.

My bad. Yep, Into Something. I like Green's solos on that album, but that's all he does. He doesn't play one melody, or vamps at all. When its his turn to solo, that's the only time he plays on that album. Other than that, tight session!
  4. I guess he didnt get all the recognition he deserved, but I wouldn't call him overlooked. He had some nice dates.
  5. That stuff I like. I even like his Breezin' album, to some extent. I was talking about his new R&B crap, like his new release.
  6. "I'm like the biggest jazz fan ever! BTW, I hate when people make up things right on the spot!"
  7. Kenny Drew.

I have Larry Young's Into It, Hank Mobley's Workout, G. Braith's Two Souls In One, pretty flimsy I know. But like I said, I just switched to guitar from drums, so I still got a lot to get.
  9. Glad to see another loyal fan Jazz Kat! All I have to say, is that if you dig "Two Souls In One" THAT much, you HAVE to get his other two Blue Notes "Soul Stream" (yes, it's my handle here!) and "Extension." They are better in many ways that 2 Souls, although 2 Souls is a stone cold classic. Also, George plays on John Patton's "Blue John" LP. Also on Blue Note and recorded around the same time. It's floating around used but not in print at the time. Definately worth picking up. Yes, George's concept is quite striking. Although initially encouraged by Roland Kirk, Braith definately had/has his own thing with the harmonies. And since I see you're a Grant Green fan, you'd be glad to hear Grant plays on all of Braith's Blue Note recordings as well as Blue John. Not only that, but Grant is in TOP form on all of them. Burning. Yeah, I will take you up on your advice. I am trying to get the whole Blue Note catalogue in my collection. Pretty big right? I have this great book with pictures of all the albums made for Blue Note. Got it for a Christmas present. It's pretty damn cool! I basically try and get any Grant Green stuff I can. Green's my favorite hard bop guitarist, but Joe Pass influenced me the most, on my playing. I'm young, so I still have time to get a lot of the Blue Note catalogue.
  10. How can any real jazz song be bad? Unless it's some lame dude crossing over from pop, o rlike you said, hip hop. I hate it when these pop singers try and scat jazz. It's like, obby dooby, scooby do bop. I'm like what the hell? What's that supposed to mean.

Yeah, I just looked at those sites. I switched from drums to guitar recently and have been delving in deep to guitarists.
  12. Wow. Speaking of Garland, I just played his album, Jazz Winds From A New Direction yesterday. That album inspired George Benson to play guitar. I'm not the biggest Benson fan in the world, but I respect the jazz cuts he does, so think that it was cool, that, that album was the reason for him to take up the guitar.

Cool. Yeah I will try to see what topics have been discussed. Someone can delete this post if they want. (moderators, or whatever.) Thanks for the welcome. This looks like a neet site.

What do you guys think of Grant Green. One of my favorite guitarists. He is a vital part of my guitar playing. I love his sound. what do you guys think?
  15. Man, I played that album at least 20 times straight today. It's so revolutionary. I wonder why Braith never got the recognition he deserved. I love the album. Nat hentoff gives some nice notes on the album.
  16. Wow, as soon as I first saw this thread, I was gonna put Mundell Lowe. I read every single one of the 9 pages, and the second to the last post stated him! hehe. Yes Mundell was pretty underrated. I have his Transit West album. I never thought Joe Pass was that underrated, but I hardly ever here of him.
  17. Hey all! I am new to the forum. I just bought George Braith's Two Souls In One lp. It is very unique. His sound using the soprano sax and the stritch at the same time, it just sounded like a scratchy tenor. What do you guys think of the album and Goerge Braith himself?
