  1. Not to mention Roach's drums sound like [crap.] I guess it has a lot to do with how albums are recorded nowadays, buthis bass durm is so dead. i miss his boomy bass drum and the echo of his toms and snare, on say, the Brownie/Roach Quintet albums.

    Grant Green

Well, yeah for what it is I'll probaly love it. I mean, all I know right now about Green is that hes a guitarist. After I read the Miles Davis auto-bio I fell in love with him, and the book, not to mention, and I have more understanding what kind of person not only Davis was, but also about Bird, and really a lot about Philly Joe.

www.ophira.com/grantgreen/grantbook.html I just found this. Pretty cool!
  4. I been to that place. Cool site! I sent away for the complete fantasy catalogue. It's very good.
  5. Those are the players I have listed on the recording. Supposedly Charlie Christian showed up as well. But I could never hear him on the recording, so I can't confirm him being there. He would have soloed at some point I would think. It is a private recording someone traded with me. THere's probaly a good chance of Christian being there. He, Clarke, and monk practically lived there during the late 40's.
  6. Modern Jazz Quartet, pyramid.
  7. Good night to all. Church tomorrow. -_-
  8. There are sme more guitarists I know, but for some reason, they are too OVERRATED more me to remember them.
  9. Eh, I rather go to bed.
  10. I guess now, everyone just keeps shoe boxes for cd's. I can still see crates out back behind Path Mark.
  11. Right now, I'm scanning through amazon, listening to samples of albums, like with the really cool covers that I haven't heard yet. Some of them were Joe Henderson's Page One, and Mode for Joe. And Bobby Hutherson, Three Sounds, and Jackie McClean.
  12. Yo, why would they make them smaller? So now, we can bring them home to our homes, and find out they don't fit, then none of us are happy. Either way, who ever we stoll the crates from still don't have them. It's not like I carry my vinyls in my pocket, to see if it fits when (if) I were to, "take one home with me."
  13. I got some of those small ones. I had to slightly bend them to fit. after I took it out after several years, (they were just second hand copies) they were all warped, and I had to straighten out the covers.
  14. You know, one of the things I have found since the first CD I got, was that records are certainly more durable than cd's. One little scratch on the disk, it's gone. But, one thing cd's can take that records can not is water! You got that equation right, B-3 er!
  15. Yep, all the way, for a piece of shaped metal!
  16. And are you actually in school?! You people honestly, dont believe me? I believe you! I think I also found various reviews of yours online at other places (about Vince Guaraldi, the Ventures, video games, Brasil 66, Modern Jazz Quartet, etc., etc.) -- you seem very energetically appreciative of a wide range of things -- I think it may be mutually beneficial that you found your way here to Organissimo -- if you can handle some of us who are old enough to be your parents occasionally acting like parents! Ah Yes, The Ventures. My rock and roll period of my life.
  17. Just like most of the things I post on here, I want everybody's opinion. Of course I got my own, but I want everyone else's. And this is a "discussion" board, where I wanted to, "discuss" the best albums for piano showcase. Looks like Jazzbo was running a one-man show.
  18. I got mine in a rack made especially for records. Got it at a flea market.
  19. Were there really lengthy solos in any big band? Except for maybe Stan Kenton, usually big bands were about the band as a whole more than the soloists. The arrangements were the key parts of the band, even though there were sometimes, exceptional solos. There weren't really any long solos in Count Basie's band.
  20. My computer has had a bunch a viruses, and the comp has been under construction since friday afternoon. I got in late last night, and today with all the snow here in NY, its been kind of hectic. Im back! I'll hope to get in at least 20 posts tonite!
  21. yo, I just a Charlie Parker album. He's awesome. Is he playing at the Garden any time soon?
  22. A380. First double decker. The 747 almost was a double decker, in one design, but they went with the other model. The Airbus A340-600 was the largest plane, until recently. Airbus and Boeing are really going at it. Boeing's answer, a smaller, more convient jet. The 7E7.
  23. Man, I just got finished jamming with Sidewinder. Man, that album has some good grooves!
  24. Chico's albums are some of the most hard to find albums than any other jazz musician put out. Parts of his Gongs East, are cool, but I get lost in the conversations between the cello and pearcing alto sound.
  25. And are you actually in school?! You people honestly, dont believe me?
