  1. Yep, his opinion is what makes it get reissued, but I still might enjoy it if I heard it.
  2. More complete? How so?
  3. I know, I guess the people here are just don't want redundant threads about the same topic. My answer to your question? I dont really know. I guess preserved, but even then it's getting, "sold."
  4. Would love to hear more about the pocket trumpet. I don't have any specific questions (don't know enough to know what to ask), other than I'm surprised to learn that the length of the tubing is the same as a standard trumpet, etc... My surprise stems not so much from the relative size of the instruments, but rather from the wildly (to my ears) different sound that pockets seem to make, vs. standard trumpets. Or are my ears on crooked again?? Edit: I always thought pocket trumpets were pitched higher than standard trumpets. (Or maybe they are?? - reguardless of having the same length of tubing?? ) Like I said, I don't know all that much about the mechanics of brass instruments. I have a pocket trumpet. The sound is basically the same, you just feel really wacky playing it. When you go back to a normal trumpet, it seems really really long, and I mean long, from the position at your lips.
  5. I would like to hear it. What Michael said was only his personal opinion.
  6. Yeah, but he has a different question about, not really the auction, but about jazz history being, "sold or preserved."
  7. cornet- short trumpet- long flugelhorn- BIG hope that helps
  8. This thread makes me relise just how little I know about trombonists, but i picked my favorite one, Curtis Fuller.
  9. I think Jackie McClean sounded like Bird in his very early years. But he grew into his own man which makes me regret voting for him.
  10. It's an allright Christmas album btw. I think he was a good pianist, i don't know how he is that much worse than Garland, but I guess you have many reasons for thinking this. He was in the Ray Charles school of piano, IMO.
  11. Richie kamuca, richie!
  12. I do too, it's just the ones where Red Holt just does rim shots, with a latin feel, like A Hard days Night, and Day Tripper. Carmen is my favorite Lewis Trio arrangement.
  13. What are your opinions on the Ramsey Lewis Trio, Ramsey Lewis: piano Eldee Young: bass Red Holt: drums I like their early stuff, but the late stuff where its all bossa novas under Beatles' songs, just bugs me. The album Pot Luck was pretty good. The In Crowd album was great, it's just the albums after the big hit that I dont like, but there werent that many, just the ones like Hang On Ramsey. What do you guys think??
  14. Neither have I, but because I dont own it. I have borrowed it a long time ago, and remember it was a damned good record.
  15. exactly! "Uh lemme throw on some contemporary pop while I clean my house, and never put on the cd again." Which is how most of America listens to music. I gues...
  16. I used to be into the Power Rangers when I was little. Those were the days. I was only allowed to watch the show, not get any of the stuff.
  17. It's over 2 years old, is it so bad that a new fresh thread has been started?
  18. Barney's Christmas sounds like a killa.
  19. Looking foward to Gabor Szabo.
  20. Good drummer. He was on a lot of those early quartet recordings, probaly The Duke and Your Own Sweat Way.
  21. Yeah I dont think it was as popular at that time to do your own session as it is now.
  22. I can never get that serious.
