I have a few music/record related dreams. The first two are recurring: In the first dream, I always stop by this elementary or high school to pick up incredibly rare jazz records that would have otherwise been thrown out. They leave them outside of the library for me. The second dream consists of a huge outdoor record show being held either down the street from my childhood home, or a few blocks south. I never seem to score as well in this dream. Last night, I had a new record related dream: my father and I were in Pittsburgh (for some reason), and we went to this record store that had a jazz section comprised entirely of Alan Silva's former collection. There were some great music biographies in there as well. I found one Alan Silva LP on Actuel for $5.49. I only had $5.00, so my pop had to cover the difference! Does anyone else have strange music related dreams?

How do these discs sound? I listened to a promo LP of New York, 1974 earlier tonight, and it was kinda bassy and muddy. This box is seriously tempting. May have to break my Mosaic cherry!

I tear mine off and throw them out. Not the paper inserts though - there is often important personnel and discographical information on those! I don't plan on re-selling my jazz LPs anytime soon, so I don't care if destroying the obi decreases the value of the record. Plus, I don't read Japanese anyway! The obi on Tommy Flanagan's 'Lonely Town' was so big, it almost took up half the cover.

I guess I'll just go for the LPs. Sound quality is so subjective anyway. We all have differently resolving systems, and each tolerate pressings/recordings differently. Case in point: I read somewhere on here that the Wildflowers LPs on Douglas (recorded at Sam Rivers' loft/studio) sounded poor. I bought all 5 sealed LPs on eBay and thought they sounded superb!

What is the best way to go about getting this material? 1. Scorpio 'grey-market' 180-gram vinyl pressings or 2. Italian 'Sunspots' CDs I can get the LPs for $6.00 each (through a distributor friend), but wanted to hear what people thought of the the sound quality on these. Thanks!

That's still not including shipping. I was sent 32 GBP which included shipping, and the cost of the bank draft brought the total to $61 CDN. Add on a $1.60 stamp to mail it, and Canadians are still better off than Dusty Groove.

Sometimes I worry that my move from bop and hard-bop to freer, spiritual jazz means that I'm going crazy, but then I remind myself that actually, freer jazz is the most natural progression of all.

DMG does seem kinda odd. I emailed them yesterday about buying some Italian BYG/Actuel CDs. I had my eye on roughly $120 worth of them. I was wondering if they accepted PayPal, as I do not have credit cards, and they do not accept any form of postal or bank money order.
