  1. You are speaking the truth right here. I just wish it were more plentiful/cheaper sometimes!
  2. Tonight was great! From memory: 1. Archie Shepp 'Black Gypsy' (America) - French pressing 2. Jan Garbarek 'Witchi-Tai-To' (ECM) - W. Germany pressing 3. Marion Brown 'Quartet' - (ESP-DISK) - Japanese pressing 4. John Surman - The Further Adventures Of Simon Simon (ECM) - W. Germany pressing
  3. How do these discs sound? I listened to a promo LP of New York, 1974 earlier tonight, and it was kinda bassy and muddy. This box is seriously tempting. May have to break my Mosaic cherry!
  4. Steve Hoffman tells all of his forum members to buy all the Ron McMaster CDs they can. I don't trust Steve Hoffman's hair though, so I have stuck with the RVGs.
  5. Deep-groove, 767 Lexington Ave., 'ear', microgroove, laminated cover Blue Notes are for filing purposes, Chuck. Scorpio copies are the play copies. Listening to Von Freeman's 'Serenade And Blue' right now, btw. Great pressing! Quiet as a mouse after the Nitty Gritty, and as full-bodied as Kirstie Ally! John Young is stealing the show!
  6. I tear mine off and throw them out. Not the paper inserts though - there is often important personnel and discographical information on those! I don't plan on re-selling my jazz LPs anytime soon, so I don't care if destroying the obi decreases the value of the record. Plus, I don't read Japanese anyway! The obi on Tommy Flanagan's 'Lonely Town' was so big, it almost took up half the cover.
  7. I guess I'll just go for the LPs. Sound quality is so subjective anyway. We all have differently resolving systems, and each tolerate pressings/recordings differently. Case in point: I read somewhere on here that the Wildflowers LPs on Douglas (recorded at Sam Rivers' loft/studio) sounded poor. I bought all 5 sealed LPs on eBay and thought they sounded superb!
  8. There is a P-Vine LP of Scorpio on eBay right now. Only $129.99 too! Ugly artwork no charge. http://tinyurl.com/5rxwvm
  9. What is the best way to go about getting this material? 1. Scorpio 'grey-market' 180-gram vinyl pressings or 2. Italian 'Sunspots' CDs I can get the LPs for $6.00 each (through a distributor friend), but wanted to hear what people thought of the the sound quality on these. Thanks!
  10. The buyer (rainbow-mountain) won my NM George Wallington Cafe Bohemia on Progressive a few years ago for $700 USD. He owns a paper mill in Japan, I believe?

    Pid?

I have always seen re-issues that have 'Pid' listed as the label/manufacturer of discs on CD Universe. Case in point: http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=7765858 What/Who is 'Pid'? Is it an acronym for something sinister?
  12. CLICK FOR LARGER! Probably the greatest record I've ever bought on eBay. I can't sit still! Has it ever been on CD? EDIT: It is on CD! www.brambus.com
  13. Item starts at $80.00, and appears to have a reserve, but just a heads up! http://tinyurl.com/49quf5
  14. Von Freeman - Serenade and Blues (nessa) NM - $9.99 David Liebman - Lookout Farm (ECM - W. Germany) NM - $7.99 Essentially free though, as I traded in a bunch of classical LPs (that were given to me). I only care for solo piano works, and this was all orchestral stuff.
  15. This and 'Out Of The Blue' on BN are absolute killers.
  16. Started tonight's session with: Yusef Lateef - Psychicemotus (Black & Red ABC pressing) -> Kenny Wheeler - Deer Wan (German pressing) -> Jack DeJohnette's Directions - Untitled (German pressing) -> John Coltrane Quartet - Ballads (Black ABC pressing) -> Bill English - s/t (Original Vanguard pressing) -> Bed-time!
  17. I suggest anyone on here stay away from the soulstrut.com forums, lest they like reading racist, sexist, and homophobic posts. There have also been countless issues of trading/sale scams with the members there. Just a heads-up!
  18. That's still not including shipping. I was sent 32 GBP which included shipping, and the cost of the bank draft brought the total to $61 CDN. Add on a $1.60 stamp to mail it, and Canadians are still better off than Dusty Groove.
  19. Is it amazing? I just mailed off my money order yesterday, and am anxiously awaiting this! EDIT: I addressed the M.O. to Hazel Miller, not Cadillac Jazz Distribution as I guess I should have. Let's hope this is no big deal.
  20. I wonder who the seller 'bluenotesound' is - Michael Cuscuna? A few ultra-low number Mosaics listed at the moment, with this Jimmy Smith box currently sitting at $900. http://tinyurl.com/62za5o
  21. Sometimes I worry that my move from bop and hard-bop to freer, spiritual jazz means that I'm going crazy, but then I remind myself that actually, freer jazz is the most natural progression of all.
  22. DMG does seem kinda odd. I emailed them yesterday about buying some Italian BYG/Actuel CDs. I had my eye on roughly $120 worth of them. I was wondering if they accepted PayPal, as I do not have credit cards, and they do not accept any form of postal or bank money order. I got this response: "only for our ebay sales [seller ID dtmgallery] we have a very small selection of our wares there - at higher prices than our own site There is NO exception to our Paypal rule - we only accept it for our eBay sales Regards, Manny at DMG" So...they don't want my money. Okay!
  23. WOW. This just in from my email: Hi Peter, I heard from Chuck, and thought I'd forward his email and my response. I will be removing the item from inventory tonight. Please make sure Chuck takes his blood-pressure medication, OK? Best to you, Scott AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Has the world gone mad? I cannot wait to mail this thing back tomorrow.
  24. Nah, I'll send the whole thing back, and let Chuck generously send me whatever he has. I'm actually not the victim here - Chuck and the members of the AEOC box are - and yet, Chuck is the one who has stepped up to the proverbial plate.
