  1. As I doubt we'll ever see legit releases from Horo, does anyone know who has the best prices for those grey-area Atomic reissues?
  2. From the samples I heard on Amazon, it sounds extremely accessible. That said, I also consider Ornette Coleman extremely accessible free jazz.
  3. Yeah I would likely offer you $35 for this if it was clean.
  4. A musical giant. A few months ago, I ordered every available BVHAAST LP that he had listed on his site - each for the measly sum of 2.5 Euros! He woefully underestimated the cost of shipping, and I imagine he wouldn't have mentioned it until I emailed him explaining that I knew he spent a lot more on postage than he charged me, and that I was going to send him the difference via PayPal. What a true lover of music and gentle human he was!
  5. Agreed! And CAM got them from Italy to Canada in 4 days!
  6. These sound just great. The samples on the CAM site aren't an accurate representation of these sets.
  7. Alright! Got my Haden and Threadgill in a week from Italy. Gonna smoke some healing herbs, put on the Haden and post my reactions.
  8. I am totally cool with buying needle-drops of rare stuff that I'd never be able to own for less than $500, but please don't charge me $15-$20 for it. There are literally hundreds of private-press free jazz albums that I wouldn't mind paying $5-$10 for, but at least I'd know they were needle-drops going into it.
  9. In the past week, I've bought two official major-label CD releases that are just vinyl needle-drops. The first is Baroque Jazz Trio's 'BJT' on Harmonia Mundi, and Sun Ra's 'Nuclear War' on Atavistic. I'm grateful to have the music, but I make better sounding needle-drops to play on my computer using my modest system. If I wanted needle-drops of these albums, I would have just searched Google. Anyone else have this experience?
  10. I thought it was said that the entire catalog would be put out by June? I doubt it'll ever happen, so I might jump on those grey-market Atomic issues one of these days after all.
  11. From CAM re: Threadgill - A philological work, beginning with the original recordings on multi-track master tapes, patiently integrally remastered paying strict attention to the sound quality. Does that answer your question? Not really, but I ordered them both anyway. I see the next four boxes have been delayed until September 3rd, 2010.
  12. Is the sound of the Haden and Threadgill boxes as awful as the sound samples that appear on CAM?
  13. Now that's commitment and a love of music! Me? I pay $150 a month more than my girlfriend so that we can live in a two-bedroom apartment. The $150 is for my 'music room' that houses my stereo, 1000 CDs, 2000 LPs, and countless books on jazz. And I'm still buying more records every week!
  14. I've got a bad feeling we'll never see these things. Not that I would blame anyone - re-issuing titles on an obscure label like Horo isn't gonna make anybody rich. It would be a labor of love, and an expensive one at that.
  15. So you got your jazzloft account banned and decided to re-register under a different name? I tell everyone not to do business with you after the horrendous transaction I had with you last year, and now you're helping prove my point!
  16. I own the Japanese reissue of this (LP). Will check what notes are included tomorrow.
  17. The jazz albums are on a separate page: http://www.harveyalbums.com/27201.html
  18. I am bumping this thread to say that I just picked up one of these yesterday. I have about 60 of these wonderful CDs, but I had never seen this before: IT IS ESSENTIAL!!! I am blasting it through my headphones now, and it sounds so tight and intuitive. It's supposedly early modern creative music (according to the allmusic.com review), but I think it's completely accessible and structured, so don't worry. I don't know if this is a super rare one or not, but just like the Valdo Williams and Charles Moffet ones, you should check it out!
  19. Did anyone ever get in touch with Valdo? This is one of the gems of the purple-spined Savoy Japan pressings!
  20. Those Impulse 20-bit digipacks that appeared between 1995 and 2000? Love them! Have most of them! Does anyone have a complete list of them, or can anyone point me to that info online? Thanks.
  21. Can't recall on which LPs of mine that I've seen that, but yes, I have seen BLUE NOTE stamped in uppercase font before. To read more about records as antiques rather than recorded mediums, check out http://jazzcollector.com - it's hilarious how these dudes obsess over everything but the music! Did it sell for less than $1,000? It must not be worthwhile music!
  22. Do we suspect that these new box sets will be CDRs?
