Overall, I'm not really a huge Berlin fan (relatively speaking), but there are some gems (some already mentioned). I love Chet's version of "What'll I Do". Another great Berlin tune (which Chet also did many times) is "How Deep Is The Ocean?" I like Chet's 1977 vocal version, as well as J.J. on Concord ("Vivian")... hell, there are dozens of great versions of that. B-)

I'm with wolff. Two good guys, and I'm sorry to see this kind of thing happen. To me, haggling has always been a normal thing- even unconsciously so. I've been involved in buying and selling for many years (records, antiques, collectables, household stuff, etc, at garage sales, flea markets, and antique shows), and most of the time haggling is fun. Sometimes you do get an insulting offer, but even that can be laughed off after awhile. Anyway, I think this CD (understandably) was priced a bit higher than most CD's you see for sale around here, and I also think Dmitry might have wanted to begin by saying "price firm" (or words to that effect), rather than assuming that everyone should know he wasn't open to offers. So, I can see riverrat's perspective. But then again, only Dmitry knows what the other offers were. Bottom line: since Dmitry would rather give it away than haggle over two bucks, I guess I'll take it. -

Cool, Tom. I hope you enjoy them. I think the prices are very good, BTW... I think I may have paid a bit more for them several years ago.

Um... the album you're talking about is TIDE, which had a few alt takes of one tune on the latest reissue. The drummer was Joao Palma, who was joined by some other percussionists, including Airto Moreira... For those just checking in, please see my post above regarding the Lumiar Jobim Songbooks...

This is tempting. B-) My wife's family had a 2600 back in the late 70's, when we were in college. Our friends used to come over to play too. That was "cutting edge" technology back then! We had a bunch of Atari and Activision games, most of which we picked up used, at garage sales and such. Some of them we never even got around to playing. To the best of my recollection, we had: Air-Sea Battle Asteroids Backgammon Barnstorming (Activision) Basketball Blackjack Boxing Brain Games Breakout Casino Chopper Command (Activision) Circus Atari Codebreaker Combat Defender Freeway (Activision) Golf Grand Prix (Activision) Gunslinger Ice Hockey (Activision) Kaboom! (Activision) Laser Blast (Activision) Maze Craze Missile Command Night Driver Othello Outlaw Pac-Man Pitfall! (Activision) River Raid Skiing (Activision) Space Invaders Starmaster (Activision) Super Breakout Surround Tennis (Activision) Video Chess Video Olympics Video Pinball Now that I think about it... this may be the one to go for, to use on my son's Playstation2: http://www.atari.com/us/games/atari_anthology/playstation2

Jim R replied to l p's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
i've been working on taking them down a notch for a year or two (musicians who everybody likes because they're taught/told to like them). can't do that kind of project in one day. read past posts. btw, by all written accounts that i've come across, evans was in top form in 1980. and supposedly his left hand playing was very busy during this period (#6 - comparing to tyner's left hand chinese water torture on the coltrane concerts, i.e. mft), which is why i got those '80 boxes in the first place. what a waste of time that was. So... you object to people liking certain artists because you seem to think they were all "taught/told to like them" (right, we're all a bunch of sheep who can only base our decisions on what we read). Then you offer us this: "btw, by all written accounts that i've come across, evans was in top form in 1980." "...and supposedly his left hand playing was very busy during this period" "...which is why i got those '80 boxes in the first place." Anyway, good luck with the smear campaigns ("credibility" has nothing to do with your ability to use a credit card, btw)... -

That you don't care for it is understandable. Calling it "muzak", however, takes your credibility down several notches, IMO. BTW, the reviewer didn't know how to spell "Kessel". (Just figured I'd try to add something useful to this). -
