  2. "...After some halfhearted haggling, the man settled for $50, which was $49 more than they were worth as far as Jerry was concerned." I can't help but wonder if the actual truth got lost somewhere along the way. No record store owner I ever met would spend $50 on a box of records that they thought was close to worthless. Either Weber spotted something(s) of value in the box, or the writer misunderstood (or has exaggerated) the story, it seems to me.

I would have expected at least 244. The Hawk Relaxes. Feel free to not consider those as rhetorical questions, btw.

The part I didn't get about sgcim's comment was the idea that Burrell ought to have been expected to play the song a certain way, or at a certain tempo. Should anybody be criticizing a jazz artist- a legendary one at that- for such things? Can we really assume that he was incapable of playing it faster? Do we really care? I think KB has gone through some definite stylistic changes over the years. I've never found any of his recordings to be bad, but his Muse and Concord material can get a bit repetetive in terms of sound and approach (still like the song material he chose, though). Personally, I think I got the least out of this recording: Nice idea, but the writing just didn't do a lot for me.

I still like it (I think), but in my experience, it was one of the most over-played and over-recorded tunes during the 80's and 90's. I had to stop listening to jazz radio at times, because I was hearing that tune three times a day.
  6. Thanks, Jim. I know it's a software engineer's job to tweak things even when they work great, so I'll go ahead and adjust (since I can't ignore the upgrade, like I'm doing with iTunes 11 ).
  7. By the way, although I can't vouch for its accuracy, anyone who may want a memory aid can go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1973_albums
  8. Thanks guys. I can still foresee some struggles using David's technique, depending on how intricate the manipulation of the quote might be. Ubu's suggestion will help with that, though. The odd thing to me is, I don't remember when this change occurred, haven't seen any announcement or discussion about the change, and it's unclear to me why this happened. Still curious, if anybody (moderators?) has any insight.
  9. If there's already a thread on this, I couldn't find it, but recently I'm finding it more difficult and awkward to use the quote function, particularly if I want to break someone's quote up into multiple parts. It's not clear to me when things changed, or why, but the problem exists both in Google Chrome and Safari. Just wondering if anybody has any tips...
  10. Do those albums have Bland's complete Duke material? There's so much great stuff there, someone ought to do a box. MG Yes, that is volume 1. All of Bland's Duke recordings were available on three such volumes, each with 2 CDs. Oops, yeah, that was just volumes 1 and 2. Forgot about vol. 3: Actually, you also forgot about volume 2, maybe the strongest of the three. John, I posted it, and it's there in the post you quoted. Maybe you have a browser issue?

I like the Shirley Scott album "Travelin' Light" on Prestige (released on a twofer CD called "Soul Sister"). With Jack McDuff, I would strongly recommend: and
