You guys were probably snickering when I commented once that I had 18 Dexter Gordon albums and I thought that was a lot! For a relative newbie it might be. I have about that many Lee Morgan CDs and they hardly get any more airplay. Hard bop has given way to cool/west coast jazz, at least for the last few months.

Does Cindy read this forum? If so, I would like to express how much I will miss her. She is the epitome of a professional customer service representative. It doesn't get any better. She always had the right things to say (in writing -- I never had the pleasure of talking with her). I wish you well.

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
mellowT replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Damn straight! That guy is amazing. -
FWIW, my Brookmeyer arrived today from JazzLoft, #2444. Looking forward to cracking it open at work on Monday. Tonight is dedicated to Sweet Dreams - Cradlesongs & Lullabies, my 9-year-old's favorite when daddy jazz doesn't do the trick. According to iTunes, she's on play #34. I'm sorry to hear the other OOP Selects that appeared available were in fact not. Who would have thought the listing updates were a manual process and the webmaster was a one-man show. At least they were fairly efficient in informing their customers of the error.

LF Beatles Stereo Box- Will trade OOP Mosaic Set
mellowT replied to greggery peccary's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Superb sets. I'd open and enjoy them if I were you. Keep them mint and you'll hardly lose out. -
Anyone have a Beatles Box set for sale ?
mellowT replied to endofcommon's topic in Offering and Looking For...
There's a used Stereo edition for sale on Amazon in "Acceptable" condition, "Some scratches on cd." Only $2,000. Sounds like a bargain to me! -
The Jazz Tones and Sweet & Lovely are near impossible to find. I own the Japan mini-LP Autumn Leaves, In a Mellow Mood, and Cooking the Blues. I've been meaning to get rid of them ever since I picked up the Mosaic for a steal of a deal about 10 months ago. In fact I just happen to be listening to Disc 3 now. Good luck with that auction. It's a hell of a set.
-
I just bought Michael Cuscuna's mint JPN PJ Fischer LPs yesterday on eBay for 12.99 a pop. It's only a slice of the pie for this set........but a sweet one! Now why didn't I think of this approach? From 'the horse's mouth', no less ! Are you guys talking about that bluenotesound guy? He's got some more sealed, low-numbered, OOP Mosaics up for auction. Just wait 20 more years and you might find his stash of Piano Trios for sale.

Third and Final Coltrane Prestige Box
mellowT replied to JETman's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
That's more like it!! Less than $15 shipped. I placed my order. :rsmile: Seems like a data entry error, but what the heck. We'll see if BestBuy lives up to their mistake. -
I would like to put in a good word for CSB046 who PM'ed me a few days ago and recommended I buy the Brookmeyer from JazzLoft.com. I immediately placed an order and tonight I received a shipping notice with tracking number, so it appears this is a merchant that only offers products they have in stock. I will update this board once the package arrives to quell those fears of another King Ubu moment. From the looks of it JazzLoft still has copies of the Brookmeyer, Dexter Gordon, and John Patton Selects for sale. Good luck.
-
I won't name names, but one of our very own board members has the Piano Trios and Don Pullen for sale on half.com. A pretty penny I might add. Perhaps he'll offer us a bargain.
-
Just ordered a Don Pullen Select from Oldies.com for $58.33. This is probably a complete waste of time, but at least it's a merchant that doesn't charge your credit card until the product ships.

Join the club. I think I'll wait until a non-drop-shipper sells one on eBay. Hope the result doesn't end up on the Ebay craziness thread.

George Wein - Is Alive And Well -
Let's not forget that several of the Selects (Brookmeyer, Pullen, Pepper, Slack) were out of stock at the time they went suddenly OOP, and had been for several months, so even if we wanted to we couldn't purchase directly from Mosaic. On the Brookmeyer, I held back until Mosaic had the money to replenish their stock. There are still quite a few black box sets on backorder. Here's hoping the same tragedy doesn't happen with those. I've got my eye on the Johnny Smith.

So much for my Brookmeyer order from the morning of the 9th. Looks like I got shafted by eBay's redtagmarket. Got this email today from Christi of Customer Service: "I‘ve personally checked on the status of your order, and I apologize for the delay. Your order has not yet shipped due to an error in our inventory... We’ll keep trying to get it for you from our suppliers and ship it as soon as it’s available. I anticipate this will be in a few days but may take up to 1-2 weeks for restocking." Yeah, that'll happen. Now my advice for buying from J&R is no longer good. They're out of stock too. I think Mosaic's email title that day should have been LastNo Chance.
-
The Brookmeyer Select is still available from J&R for $53 plus $3 shipping. Two ebay sellers have it available for $62, twelve bucks more than when I ordered it on Wednesday. I haven't received any confirmation from that transaction, so it's possible I could be left SOL.
-
Just ordered one. I usually avoid organ jazz, but I liked the audio samples and lineup. I think my musical tastes are evolving. I came close to throwing in the Louis Armstrong set too, but decided to place this on my Christmas list instead. I certainly hope another Mosaic tragedy doesn't occur before then.

Looks like the link I posted only works for some of the discographies. Some of the pages switch themes and then error out. Here's a better one from Dec 2006: http://web.archive.org/web/20061224212422/...aicrecords.com/ By the way, you can inspect all archived versions at this address.

Errr... She might be reading this I hope so! I think we all love Cindy. I certainly do. (Don't tell my wife!)

Correct. I get the impression that posters here forget that. That's different from whether they could sell FLACs going forward. Furthermore, EMI (or at least the pressing plant it subcontracted to) clearly violated Mosaic's agreement with regards to the Selects and big boxes by destroying the masters to sets that were still under license. I find it fairly incredible that Mosaic had such a weak contract that they apparently get no compensation from this or at the very least cannot force the pressing plant to create new masters. Under those circumstances, I would certainly have my lawyers approach EMI and say that one way to make Mosaic whole would be to allow FLAC sales of this material during the remainder of the license period. In fact, the longer they take to attempt such a thing, the more likely that the holier-than-thou jazz blogs will start offering the stuff for free on the basis that there is no legal way to purchase the material anyway. Good points. However, if they can't afford to place the Jazz Crusader's set back into print after nearly a year's time, I doubt they can afford a lawyer.

This works just as well, and takes less space. http://web.archive.org/web/20060805160412/...ents.asp?dept=5

Yeah, wonder if this is the tip of the iceberg.

Sounds like Chuck needs a Last Chance page.

Dexter Gordon - Mosaic Select 14 In honor of my first and favorite Mosaic Select, which just went OOP this morning. I must be on, like, listen #31 by now. It never gets old.
