  1. Discussion threads are linked in the Master list!

  5. Sounds like you're the busiest king in Switzerland ......
  6. Is that the Mike Wolff from California who played with Cal Tjader in the early 1970's? How was it?
  7. Never had any problems with Caiman, but OTOH I never ordered items that obviously were OOP .....
  8. ... me neither
  9. Ray, are you aware you moved up a month?
  10. Well ..... that Atlantic was Bags' session, who preferred Kay for his strict timing, and is not the best example for Kay outside of the MJQ - he plays very straight on that one. Of the sessions he did with others, I like Michel Sardaby's with Heath and Kay very much - the subtlety and the power, and much better recorded than on most Atlantics.
  11. Much more familiar with his work in the late '60s/early '70s, essentially pre-Colosseum. I like him with the pianists, and he's solid on the Jack Bruce Things We Like LP. Maybe he took a turn for the worse later. That Jack Bruce is nice indeed - but the way he played with Colosseum or the United Jazz & Rock Ensemble bores me.
  12. Oh yeah - often rolling over the heads without using his own head ....
  13. Just thought about Mike Mainieri's debut LP on Solid State ......
  14. Didn't expect to get to hear some jazz here in Lindau, after listening to the sound samples I'm seriously considering to go see the Tonc Feinig Trio tonight ..... More info and samples on http://www.tonctone.com/. p.s. decided against it as my wife and myself were a little tired, and the hotel where the event took place appeared to be quite expensive ...
  15. I was afraid I would read that here .....
  16. Please burn two extra copies for me - I will forward them to our dependancies in Texas! You can open the discussion threads (one for each disc) when about half the recipients have got their discs.
  17. Jon Hiseman
  18. Ronnie Burrage - on record or live, no matter - insensitive, to loud, too many backbeats.
  19. Saw a two piano recital on Monday night of Joseph and Anthony Parratore playing some Schubert, Camille Saint-Saens' version of Liszt's b minor sonata, Debussy's Prélude pour un après-Midi d'un faune, and a Gershwin concerto. Encores were an Irving Berlin Medley and excerpts of the Jazz Point Suite Dave Brubeck wrote for them - but one of the two brothers simply cannot swing ...... The Liszt sonata they played really well.
  20. I'd recommend any SACD remastering of a Contemporary album - but the CDs also sound great, simply because they were recorded wery well in the first place. I like the way Pierre Sprey records at Mapleshade, but this sound is not to everybody's taste ...... I will post more when I'm back home.
  21. It actually depends on the quality of the paper used, although I can't reproduce details - same happend with books. Sunlight is a factor, but not alone.
  22. What JSngry said. I was really grateful that they released the complete album at last - and I am willing to buy anything with Julius Watkins playing a solo.
