Got it yesterday, and heartily recommend it - a beautiful record. In some way, conceived as a Stan Getz tribute, but of the non-imitative type that would find JSngry's approval. And: Lenny White plays excellently on this one!!! p.s. only thing that iritated me: the title "Alone" somehow suggested a solo saxophon record to me .....

Duh - Universal has scheduled a European release date of December 30 - no Stitt for Xmas!!!

This Monday I daw some new pressings with the Universal distribution imprint in a Frankfurt shop - seem to be the old OJC remasterings. If they have to replace all of the old ZYX pressings, I reckon some titles will be lost in the run ....

That record is smokin'!!!!!!!!!!

hmm .... here's the quote from the page you linked: I doubt that the writer of these lines ever saw or heard those sets. Historically Speaking had only excerpts from three LPs, the remainder was previously unissued material. Blowing The Cobwebs Out hade four complete LPs, however. The Power Of Positive Swinging: never heard of this before. Maybe Campi had planned it, but I never saw a trace of this, and shortly afterwards the Verve/MPS reissues started. And yes, 17039 and 17040 refer to the two discs of the same two CD set!

Frohne mentions only two Emamon double CD sets - no reissue with the title you mentioned, Daniel. You have any details - where did you read about this?

I have the Cobwebs and Historically sets - never heard there was a third one. Will check Frohne's disco.

Hah! And I thought I had all of Cannon's early sessions ..... I'm tempted to get the vinyl when I look at the personnel. That one preceded the sessions reissued on the Verve Twofer CD Sophisticated Swing - must be good music, for sure!

The latest edition of Michael Frohne's Kenny Clarke discography which comes with the recent German translation of Mike Hennessey's book lists a ton of radio and tv broadcasts, but not all of them were preserved. It will be hard to decide what to release and what not - there are dozens of versions of the same tunes. Most of the studio stuff was reissued in some form on CD, by Koch, Collectables, Universal .... to have all of it in one place would still be nice. AFAIAC it should start with the Don Byas EP session - the first with both Clarke and Boland. A first box set could stop with the first session that introduced second drummer Kenny Clare on one track.

I also got this from Zweitausendeins - and I enjoy it much more than I thought I would. The band was really together, and the differently conceived albums from quartet size up make for varied listening. Not to mention the consistently excellent soloing from everyone involved. Another recommendation here!

This opens up too many possibilities: just ordered another CD "Boom Boom Language" with vibist Francesco Lo Cascio who is in this B.S.A.A. band .... what does that abbreviation stand for, BTW?

That said: Jimmy Rowles and Red Mitchell were one of the dream combinations in jazz, IMHO.

Red'n'Me includes perhaps the finest example of Jimmy Rowles' love affair with Wayne Shorter tunes: "Mama G" from the VeeJay days, a hard bop burner that inspires the duo to some great exchanges. Couldn't find a used copy on amazon.de - though the Dreyfus CD mighty be easier to locate.

I'll give Pink,Inc. a try - and some other Garzone. Jim's description of his characteristics is pretty much on point.
