Above the index finger of his left hand, to the right of the bell of the horn ...

(from site linked above) Anybody take your shoes and socks off and give this a try? p.s. you can leave your trousers zipped up.
  3. That too is in the Riverside box. There were some unreleased tracks or takes from some of the Verve sessions on a Japanese LP, but AFAIK all of these were included as bonus tracks on the US CD releases of the respective sessions.
  4. How do you know what he fed next after the chicken?
  5. OK, after changing my e-mail adress and disabling PMs I can finally admit I have the only copy of the Wes/Trane Monterey performance - but I am still negotiating with the Coltrane estate before I can sell it to Universal for release ...
  6. Judging from these comments, you will do well here, welcome to the club, and never be afraid to ask the same dumb question we all have, but most do not have the courage to ask ...
  7. Can't wait for the discussion to begin - there is one track on disc two from a musician I have heard live several times that I like a lot better than anything else I have heard him play. I will certainly ask for more of this, if there is ... the only advantage of the overhauling of my late mother's flat is that I can, while at work, at last listen to that big pile of discs that has been sitting here for too long. Thanks again!
  8. These CDs are all nice - sometimes I find him a bit cerebral - as on a live gig with Joanne Brackeen last year. I like that he knows how to creatively use funky grooves. His name is pronounced "Shemus", BTW.
  9. I think he's great - I have all of his CDs and wonder what he will ne up to next. He was on my list. Very original way of treating the jazz history as seen through the keyboard, although quite different from e.g. Jason Moran, whom I appreciate very much and listen to, but who doesn't move me as much.
  10. What's missing is a total post count at the bottom of every page - OTOH that would make some of us try to hit the big number by even more silly posts
  11. ... or the same old things all over again ...
  12. Happy Birthday, Pisces Brother! If I ever come across a copy of that OOP Big Al CD of a certain German label, it will be yours. Until then, some Tjader will be on its way to you tomorrow.
  13. Collective bad timing ... a new set of strings whenever you need it, and best belated wishes!
  14. click here - if these things weren't so damn expensive I would have got me one many years ago - they are truly fascinating!
  15. Was it the record store or rather the beer store ?
  16. Great choices! Excellent BFT! That Adam Levy - where can I order this? Got some right, but plenty of surprises as well. Sun Ra did that Round Midnight arrangement? Wow. I heard the Arkestra once in Frankfurt, and it was - forgive me - pretty lame and uninspired. This here is much better. The Moses - he's a deep player. Kenny Wollesen too - some cool drummers out there doin' everything between pop country and jazz. I heard him on a Rudy Linka CD with Scofield and Abercrombie guesting, and found him great. Agree about Grady Tate! One of the greatest jazz recording session drummers ever!!! Lays down some of the best bossa nova I have heard. Saw him live with Jimmy Smith and Kenny Burrell, and he was way cool and daring. Again: Great choices!
  17. No reason to apologize - I think the BFTers know each other pretty well by now - of course we're still open for new pairs of ears!
  18. Discs are here - you must indeed have a very nice record collection for someone your tender age Get it - it's worth it!
  19. I completely agree with B3er's point of view and apologize for the few times I have broken that rule.
  20. No matter how late - I read all the comments. Can't repeat it often enough, this is not about correct guesses oe even first correct guesses, but more about comments on the music. And yes, a note of thankful receipt is the least one should post. I understand sh.. happens and consumes any time for listening, which is what happened to Big Al this time, who is one of the liveliest participants.
  21. Go ahead!
  22. True from a certain angle - but one of the best CTI's! CD sounds good to me.
  23. My copy is the Celluloid CD - "Made in Holland" it says. Has a 1984 copyright. Will have to re-listen to tell how it sounds. Who owns the rights to Douglas recordings?
  24. Plenty jazz, good health, and fine tuned ears for the blindfold tests!
