  1. From http://www.humnet.ucla.edu/humnet/c1718cs/Music04-05.htm:
  2. He was touring Austria with Californian bassist John B. Williams and local musicians in August, 2004.
  3. Some web search reveals quite a bit of activity - including a CD by bassist Darek Oles where he guests on one track - Oles is a member of Maupin's chamber ensemble.
  4. I will review all of his Fantasy CDs here, but I'm too busy right now - please be patient! But for starters here's a list of them (first period only, including sideman appearances): Fantasy FCD-24712-2 - Cal Tjader - Los Ritmos Calientes Fantasy FCD-24726-2 - The Dave Brubeck Trio - 24 Classic Original Recordings Fantasy FCD-24730-2 - Cal Tjader - Black Orchid Fantasy FCD-24732-2 - Cal Tjader - Latino ! 5. Seems he was active in Eastern Europe - he appeared on the Varna Jazz Festival in Bulgaria in the summer of 2004 as well.
  6. Once saw him reading on TV - one sentence I will never forget: Is there a specific type of Jewish humor, and if so, why not? Thanks for this, Mr. Kishon!
  7. I think I know what you're talking about - I felt similarly at first, expecting something in the vein of his organ/drums duos on the Blue Note LPs, but once I got beyond that ...... pure musical poety.
  8. Winchester did more than one session with organists: Shirley Scott, Soul Sister (available on Prestige PRCD-24233-2 "Legends of Acid Jazz: Soul Sister") Oliver Nelson, Takin' Care of Business (available on Original Jazz Classics OJCCD-1784-2) Johnny "Hammond" Smith, Gettin' The Message (available on "Talk That Talk" Prestige PRCD-24151-2) Jack McDuff, Tough Duff (Original Jazz Classics OJCCD-324-2)
  9. What CD is it that Joe and the Turbanator are on?
  10. Brooks' low presence on the scene to promote album sales may have been a factor.
  11. Yes - but they all were like that, IIRC.
  12. Isn' there a Johnny Hammond with Lem Winchester as well?
  13. Not quite correct - he guested on the new CD "Shifting Times" by Paradigm Shift - which is an organ trio - on nagel heyer records.
  14. Really? No kidding? And are some playing synchoronized left hand/pedal?
  15. You could have said that right away! Well, please e-mail me what you have, at least an artists' list - I am still curious!
  16. This is right at the top of my wish list, especially after hearing how great the Turbanator's organ sounded on the last Javon Jackson on Palmetto. I think this label records the best organ sound right now.
  17. Same here, sans burn.
  18. Back to topic: 1. the new Organissimo (signed, no less!) 2. the latest Turbanator 3. the latest melvin Rhyne 4. some Don Patterson Prestige still missing in my collection 5. Groove Holmes first Prestige with Misty on it 6. ..... (leave blank for later use)
  19. I think I got that saying from a Kurt Vonnegut novel or short story - can't remember which as I sold them all many years ago. Vonnegut - another American with German ancestors ....
  20. Are the answers still missing or am I just too dumb to see them?
  21. I'd say wait 'til the weekend.
  22. Outside???!!
  23. Why not ask Mosaic for replacements of the wrong inlays? They might still have some. Mine are okay.
  24. Who cares? Would it change anything if we knew who was what? What if it actually did?! My friend from Kurdistan calls me "bra", which means brother in his language. On the other hand, he doesn't like Arabs ... this won't lead us anywhere. I find it more thrilling to not know what race or whatever you call it the others are. If all men were brothers, would you let one marry your sister?
