  1. How could I forget... Irene Schweizer, Maggie Nicols, Julie Tippets all from a slightly older generation but still very much active. I fear this thread may need some focus from the OP or it's going to be a long list which isn't a bad thing in itself but may not meet his requirements
  2. That's a very nice selection. Did she like them? Myra Melford, Kris Davis, Maria Schneider, Anna Weber, Jamie Branch, Laura Kinsella, Patricia Brennan, Magda Mayas, Susana Silva Santos, Lisa Uhlen, Julie Kjaer and that's without thinking too hard. All released interesting music recently. There's lots more I'm forgetting I'm sure. Not least Elaine Michener
  3. That's very good indeed and Shocron should maybe be mentioned in @David Ayers new thread about women improvisors. she has some very good releases on the Argentiniain label Nendo Dango https://nendodango.bandcamp.com/album/algo-en-un-espacio-vac-o
  4. Yes, I could reel off a list of female artists from the last 20 years too, and before. I hope your aunt enjoyed the selection. Prompted by a post from @Rabshakeh in the listening now thread, Paula Shocron
  5. Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Rachael Musson in a number of interesting groups and solo. Also, introduced to the work of Charlotte Keefe. Both on BC I've been eyeing up that Gail Brand recording for a while
  6. That looks like an interesting project. I don't know Sandford. Just found it to stream so listening now. I thought it was collection of Bowie's tunes but I realise it isn't that now, a shame as that would have been a really interesting idea.
  7. Sometimes only Gregory will do. Today's one of those times
  8. Giorgio Gaslini Sestetto - Free Actions [Dischi Della Quercia, Italy 1978]
  9. Your search skills are better than mine. 14 years dormant, needs some attention methinks
  10. Sounds like we need a SA Jazz thread
  11. Yes, just discovering it. Seems to be a lot of good music, old and new out of SA at the moment. Needs further investigation. Any tips gratefully received especially for new recordings. Next up is Ndabo Zulu & Umgidi Ensemble
  12. Gideon Nxumalo on Matsuli
  13. Both very good in very different ways. The Roscoe is "musical pointillism" if I were sat in Pseud's Corner. Very deliberate use of space/time, lots of single notes from saxophone and/or the percussion. All sounds very organic. I haven't enjoyed a RM release as much on first listen for ages. I knew Mortazavi from his last solo album so was intrigued by the addition of beats. Works really well and is short and sweet at just over 20 minutes. It's on Tidal and Spotify. I do like the Navarro/Holmes a lot despite it always sounding too short or unfulfilled in some way. What makes you of it? The
  14. Congratulations to you all! so that's why you were going to be busy... Mal Waldron, surely or has he absorbed enough of that already in the womb?
  15. Ice cream, Hemphill, all good then
  16. I don't have it....hmm. Hope UCLH did their magic, they tend to in my experience
  17. Anthony Braxton - Seven Compositions 1978 [Moers Music, 1980]
  18. Nice. Did you make it to Columbia Road accidentally?
  19. I assume you saw this review. https://londonjazznews.com/2021/10/04/keith-tippett-weekend-bristol-beacon-st-georges-bristol/ I also got a review from Bev (A Lark Ascending) that confirmed how moving the event was
  20. Lovely. Saw them perform it at Kings Place
  21. Kochi - Wishes [East Wind, 1976] Kikuchi, Hino, Liebman, Mtume, Grossman, Lucas, Foster and Jackson hitting a very Milesian groove
  22. Polly Jean Norma Jean Jean Cocteau
