  10. thx!!!! he held that string of keys up as if it weighed half that. he's a little guy, looked to be 5'6" superb wiki article(s). i thought vibes were just some tubes of varying length and diameter., mics, and a damper. the set steve nelson played last night at smalls(and always has) was huge, even ponderous. how vibists navigate n.y. subways and cabs mystifies me.
  11. "With hip hop dominating the airwaves it’s easy to assume that our young people have completely forgotten all about the legacy of jazz music. Fortunately that doesn’t even remotely apply to 16-year-old jazz guitarist Giavanna. What makes her story even more inspiring is that she had no formal training; she is self-taught and is an honor student in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), a district with no arts budget. But in spite of the lack of arts and music programs, Giavanna was determined to master jazz. She learned to play by ear, listening to the radio and CDs. It seems she’s a science whiz by day and a jazz guitarist with the older cats by night." http://www.eurweb.com/2010/04/photos-16-year-old-jazz-guitarist-gives-tribute-to-wes-montgomery/

  16. this world is now a 30 second ad/pr-driven 10 second clip picture driven society. there is no place or demand for serious depth, perspective, objectivity, and rational thinking. if we forego the disciplines and rewards our print format requires of us for sound bit analysis, 250 word 'articles' and 'perspective', the consequences will be dire to our society, if not civilization.
  17. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music-arts/fight-america-classical-music-alive-article-1.1412829 "The quiet but terribly important battle to keep popular standards playing in our contemporary culture has just suffered a couple of setbacks. This past Friday, Jonathan Schwartz left SiriusXM satellite radio after more than a decade as its most prominent popular standards host playing the music and songs of the 1920s, ’30s, ’40s and ’50s. “SiriusXM, which has been very good to me, asked me to stay,” he said. “But I’m 75. I’ve been working very hard for a long time and it’s time not to do that.” Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music-arts/fight-america-classical-music-alive-article-1.1412829#ixzz2b1S66DZE"
