  1. ah! you noticed that too?! below is a link to the site with some details. The movie wouldn't start for me, so I posted a direct link to the .mov file. You should be able to download the film to your harddisk using that .mov link BTW. site: http://www.joeytomatoes.com/muppetsovertimeoriginal05.htm

I already wondered about this when it was first put on the reissue schedule... Pity the cover art needs changing. A remark by Cuscuna in the linernotes explaining the sensitivities and the decision might be a nice gesture.
  3. thanks for the pic and the explanation. It isn't the sound per se, but more that I have the impression that the player hits some wrong notes at the wrong time, disturbing the rhythm. As I mentioned in my first impression about the track, it all settles down as the track proceeds and upon repeated listening, I actually like it all very much; just those few flukes. Maybe the player and or the instrument hadn't warmed up yet(?)
  4. oy! great little movie: http://www.joeytomatoes.com/muppetsovertimeoriginal05.mov
  5. heheheh. It was Mirabassi himself in an introduction to a live performance. He mentioned that he was sorry that his english wasn't very good, and that he was sorry that he was not a pretty girl as people might expect with a name like Gabriele. Pretty funny talker BTW
  6. who is sorry he is not a pretty girl...
  7. there is no website, Caiman is one of the "private" sellers on half.com and amazon.com marketplace. It seems only the Farlow set is available at this low price, the other Mosaic/Verve sets distributed through Universal are all priced as per usual.
  8. 1952, Henri Renaud - New Sound at the "Boeuf sur le toit" (Blue Star/JiParis) 1962, Max Roach - It's Time (Impulse!), 2 tunes 1966, Johnny Hartman - Unforgettable (Impulse!), 4 tunes 1968, Lee Morgan - Taru (Blue Note) 1971, Albert Mangelsdorff - Live in Tokyo (enja/Amiga)
  9. well mike, I am so connected to MY inner rhythm that as soon as the dude on the left starts hammering his thing, I get all quirky because he simply does not hit the thing at the right time or with much of a feewing IMHO. I have no problems whatsoever connecting to more complex rhythms being played, but whatever this person is playing, just doesn't strike me as correct in a couple of places in the first half of the tune. And even if that can be okay at times, it isn't here. Like I wrote, I quite like this tune really and even more after repeated listenings and I have no problem with the percussion being so far up front in the mix.
  10. Cecil Payne also appeared on KD's "Afro Cuban" sessions and he was also present at the Tadd Dameron led date that was released on the Lost Sessions conn.

    HANK ON TV!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's a pic of Hank all on his own in the German film Der frühe Vogel fängt den Wurm by Helge Schneider. It also features a character named Earl Mobileh, undoubtedly in honour of Hank's appearance on the Dizzy Norgran record. Earl Mobileh is more of a cross between Moondoc and Sun Ra though.
