  1. only funny in German
  2. impossible font? I've seen this cool trick of mirroring and turning letters to get others. Dave McKean did some of that way back when. Recently I saw it on some Flat Earth Society things. There are many more possibilities than just turning the "a" to form an "e" of course, but I like the sparseness here. Good stuff!
  3. playing through a bunch of Polish 10" LPs in search of more Jerzy Milian doorbell dingdongism and associated hipness. Seems I hit the jackpot just now with a track hidden among a bunch of unrelated items from undated live festival recordings hosted by Willis Connover. At least it *sounds* like Jerzy, no info on the label. The track is followed by a plenty cool Kurylewicz 4tet performance.
  4. I have no clue on the organist, but here is a nice site on Kenyon Hopkins.

    LP to CD

turntable: as good as you can get. If you are satisfied with what you have, that's good enough. You will need a soundcard. Onboard sound on the motherboard is probably not going to do the trick. You just link your stereo amp-out to the soundcard line-in. As for software, I use CoolEdit (now Adobe Audition) others here use Goldwave ( http://www.goldwave.com/ ) The latter is shareware and the free evaluation version allows you to do something like 50 or 100 actions and then you have to re-start the programme. Not a problem if you aren't thinking of having major manual declick fests. I'd advice you to not overdo the editing. Some loud clicks and pops that are messing with the enjoyment of the music you can remove manually and be happy. Automised declicking will in 99% of the cases be detrimental to your music signal.

  7. Yes, you would indeed expect a big blurb on the cover shouting Jimmy at the buyer. Then again, it's only two tunes.

if you go over to the Ninja Tune website ( http://www.ninjatune.net ), you can find *a lot* of samples to have a taste plus many links to artist pages all over the web. I have been out of the loop here for some time and don't recognise many of the names.
  9. Most live material I have put in plain slim cases with nothing but basic info. Some I have honoured by making a nice booklet, like the Lounge Lizards. And my GDR jazz compilation got a nice cover as well.
  10. and let's see, who was Creed Taylor's organist of choice in the middle sixties? no it can't be. the plot thickens!

Kari, exactly what is meant by the term "nu-jazz"? I'm interested! nu jazz is an umbrella kind of term for all those electronic musics with a jazzy vibe. It ranges from loop-based house and trip hop (e.g. Jazzanova, stuff in the Pork label, some of the Ninja Tune label) to improvised music with electronic means (e.g. Cinematic Orchestra, Jaga Jazzist).
  12. I don't believe a link to this site has been posted: http://www.sabadabada.com/ check it out. Lots of cover art and many sound samples too.
  13. this organ sounds mighty familiar! Didn't b3er post some days ago that he successfully identified 60 different organ players on some blindfold radio show? I found out that the Buddwing soundtrack was recorded in New York City on November 29, 1965
