Bill Evans' Documentary - The Universal Mind of Bill Evans
Blue Train replied to Blue Train's topic in Artists
And of course near the end of his life he added to his repertoire The Theme from Mash also known as "Suicide is Painless". Always wondered about that. You know a psychologist/psychiatrist would have had a field day with it. I find his penchant for "Emily" to be far more disturbing. Never saw the film it comes from and just checked the lyrics for the song itself. Can you give more detail on why for us young'uns? Because it too is by the Mandel and because IMO it's kind of a whiney/wimpy piece of music, as annoying in its own way as "The Shadow of Your Smile" -- though many talented jazz musicians obviously have felt otherwise. OTOH, the film itself is darn good IIRC, though I admit to having a soft spot for Julie Andrews -- as an actress, a singer, and as a person. Did an interview with her once -- a lovely experience. P.S. In general, I'm a Mandel fan. His Alban Berg-influenced score for "Point Blank" is something else. Okay, so not anything to do with the suicide thing....which is what I thought you meant...and couldn't figure it out. More a commentary on the song itself. -
The Dodgers are planning a Babe Ruth bobblehead day. WTF? They basically hired him to show up in a uniform in 1938....and while being a base coach he wasn't allowed to relay any signals. I thought Trout was robbed last year because he was a rookie....this year it could have gone either way with Cabrera, but still think Trout should have won. Playing on a losing teams hurts you in the votes. Andrew McCutchen was a given. Just hope Trout & Harper hold out to be a free agent.

First Pizza Port I have seen outside of California....let alone in a different country. Never tried this one, but cornered the market. -
Dennard invented DRAM....and each one also gets $500,000.

Well, the NYT called Meat Loaf, Mr. Loaf. Yeah, but I am a good 40 - 42 or so years younger and in better shape! Still not used to anyone calling me Mr., or Sir....for a second I think my Pops must have shown up. Your day will come. As it comes to everyone....but no need rushing it.

Loved me some Root Beer Floats! ...without the Float portion not that into the neat stuff. Not that there is anything wrong with it! -

Yeah, but with this lineup there's little room for complaints: Marty Ehrlich Large Ensemble: E.J. Allen, trumpet; Ray Anderson, trombone; Uri Caine, piano; John Clark, French horn; Joseph Daley, tuba; Robert DeBellis, alto and soprano sax, clarinet; Michael Dessen, trombone; Curtis Fowlkes, trombone; Drew Gress, bass; Jerome Harris, guitar, slide guitar; Miki Hirose, trumpet; Ron Horton, trumpet; Howard Johnson, baritone sax; Brad Jones, bass; Adam Kolker, tenor sax, clarinet; Andy Laster, alto sax; Eric McPherson, drums; J.D. Parran, narrator, soprano and bass sax; Lisa Parrott, baritone sax, bass clarinet; Jason Robinson, tenor sax; Warren Smith, vibraphone, percussion; James Weidman, piano; Matt Wilson, drums; James Zollar, trumpet; Marty Ehrlich, conductor. Not complaining and already ordered it....was just pointing it out for anyone interested in him. Yes, that is an amazing lineup.

Thanks.....great idea....I changed the title of the thread. Also allows me to bump this up again. -
Before the Colts game last night they said they would make the Richardson trade again. You can't make that up. Which was followed by the 2nd week in a row that Luck once again out-rushed Richardson (a dominating 8 for 22) and was the 2nd leading rusher on the Colts....and even rushed for a TD....and had the longer run of the two. Richardson basically has the same stats as McGahee....and McGahee basically came off the streets after a knee injury last year, and no camp, no pre-season games....much older, and with just a couple weeks of practice, and like Richardson a new playbook to learn. No one even offered McGahee a contract for this year....if not for the trade he would be watching @ home like everyone else.

It's not Fox, it's Time Warner (Fox is who their current TV contract is with, which ended this year) and they already agreed to a $8.5 billion dollar deal @ the beginning of the year. $1 billion+ of it goes to the other owners as part of the revenue sharing. They only thing that has held it up from becoming formal was the other owners wanted a bigger cut of the pie. And that's going to be on top of Guggenheim money. Beside the drunken sailor bit of overpaying for the team and the bit with the Red Sox....they already spent $100 million (privately funded) into renovations of the stadium....and they're planning even more renovations.

True, it's a tricky economy, which is why what he's doing really makes even less sense. Okay, I am beating a dead horse.
-
Oh well, send him some money and he'll surely be glad to do more reissues ... and no, by 2045, he'll be gone and the label with him, as it seems. Sent him all kinds of money for things he's released. I either have, or have access to every hat worth having through Pops. It's the reissues that pay the bills for the new stuff (a bought a good deal of those in the past as well)....and now he's outsourcing them to pay the bills....it would be nice to upgrade from a needle drop/or rip of CD. Without Pops, I would be like the others and downloading whenever one gets uploaded. If he really was interested in making money and keeping the place going he wouldn't be releasing a batch like that after not releasing for so long. And pretty sure my point about 2045 was they were not going to happen.
-
The problem is he's releasing 3 really snoozefests....and I actually like two of those groups involved....and he's literally sitting on a gold mine of stuff people will jump all over (and not just the Braxton)....believe me...anytime anyone of them (especially the stuff only on vinyl) get uploaded they're swarmed over....and he and the musicians don't make a single penny from it. It makes no sense @ all from a business/financial point of view....it's really like he has been going out of his way to go bankrupt in the last decade. Just the continuing of listing things as upcoming for 5-10+ who know how long years...when he knows it's not upcoming. The only reason I am buying the McPhee Nation Time release from C&D is because of the one hat release in it. All I have is a copy from Pops vinyl. Everything else in it musically has been reissued. The rest I could care less about. Once again....he's now outsourcing to other labels things that people would have bought before any of the new stuff that get less interesting with each year.

I don't think royalties from some dream release from a fan is what he, or his family are concerned about. This is about making whatever time left is better for him. Once again....for anyone that wants to help him....and not turn this into a reissue/remastering/etc. thing (seriously!).....you have no idea what I really wanted to say to your post. http://gusttsilis.com/arthurblythe/ -

This says that that report was bogus - CTE cannot be determined for the living, only via an autopsy. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/randy-hall/2013/11/14/espn-sports-reporters-fooled-hoax-living-football-players-have-fatal-dis Everyone that has read all the reports about those that have been confirmed to have CTE should know that...what they reported was they showed signs of it. The CFL paper was the equivalent of the one done by the NFL about concussions that they're now embarrassed about....as in, paid by the CFL. Ann Coulter writes for that place. If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about it. I just checked....and I can't find anyone else making the same claims as Hall....who really is nutcase if you read even just a few his posts. You would think even the NFL would attempt some sort of reply.....crickets!

Missed this thread....over/under on how many "motherfucker" are allowed? -
Now I am Mr. Blue Train. Makes me feel so much older. With the Ran Blake there have/will be now several hat releases by other labels (the fact that another label is/will be releasing any McPhee hat's tells anyone what anyone needs to know).....my guess is that is how he is now paying for this snoozefest announcement. He has to own the masters....just the Braxton alone.....Braxton could have just released them on his Braxton House label and make a killing if he owned the rights to them. If Braxton and all the others don't own them....only one person does. The mind-boggling thing is he's sitting on stuff he could make two pressings of the usual 3,000 reissues...., but keeps releasing things very few are interested in....which explains the financial problems.
-
Sorry, that's a major yawn considering what he has been promising for who knows how long. The Ayler isn't even that old in comparison to what he keeps saying they're going to reissue. The others are really not that interesting. If he really thinks those are going to help things in the future....not holding my breath on any of what people want will ever be reissued. Anyone know why Live At Dreher Paris 1981 is now being listed as two recordings called Mostly Monk and Originals? For awhile, I was excited there was some unreleased music by Lacy and Waldron. Of course, I expect they will be reissued in 2045.
