I read on AAJ some months ago that Valerie is the widow of Walter Bishop, Jr. it's not true that i'm walter's widow although i was married to him in the '60s and '70s. he does, however, have a lovely widow who lives in ny. I don't think you are Mr B's widow either. you're correct, i'm not Billy Eckstine's widow!

i knew paul long ago, my girlfriend lived with him for years, he lived across the street from me, i went to his funeral. all that to say that i cannot swear one way or another. what i did say was that i had never heard that said about paul before - in 40 years!

". . . and P.C. had a reputation of keeping people hooked. . ." yeah, troyk, i think that statement is offensive. in 40 years, i've never heard anything like that about him before.

i have loved KD since the '60s and miss him very much. his albums/cd's get played by me a lot. i was fortunate enough to get to see him in person many times during my years in nyc.

i'll bet that most folks don't know that he was a big jazz fan. i used to see him at Donte's, a long-age jazz club in north hollywood in the 70's. he always seemed like a very sweet, nice man. always sat at the bar and always seemed like he was really enjoying himself. if i remember correctly, he was friends with some of the musicians as well. i had heard fairly recently that his health was not good and i am sorry that he is gone from our midst. my condolences to his family and friends. Former club owner Mikell has departed
ValerieB replied to Christiern's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
boy, oh, boy, that obit/article really took me back to some of my happiest new york memories. i lived on 93rd near columbus so these were some of my favorite haunts in the sixties. i remember seeing lots of the folks mentioned plus many, many others. my favorite person to see there on occasion was sidney poitier. he was a close friend of terry's. there were several incarnations on that site: vic & terry's, terry's pub and then mikell's. what wonderful nights and times were had in those clubs by yours truly!! my sincere condolences to mike's family and friends. valerie bishop -
JamesJazz: thank you SO much! i'm passing this wonderful tribute around to some friends who knew Roy and may not have seen it.
-
peter, you've managed to mention four of my favorite players/people from the sixties! thankfully, barry and charles are still with us.

i am sad to hear about roy's passing and although 67 is very young, roy had a tough struggle to survive those many years. i think i remember when he and hermine married in the sixties. this is probably the first time he's been at peace in a long time. god bless his soul. and i send my heartfelt condolences to his widow, family members and friends. valerie bishop

"Between You and Me," Mike Wallace's second memoir. Just started it but I think it will prove to be a brief but fascinating read. What a life he's lived! Met him last night at an interview/book-signing in Beverly Hills. We actually share a hometown (Brookline, MA) which he mentioned when he signed the book. He looks incredible and nowhere near his 87 years!
