I like this session quite a lot. Smulyan is in top form, pianist Pete Malinverni fits well and plays fine solos. Drummer Matt Wilsom is truly wonderful. His playing is highly creative and joyful. The vocals by Anais Reno were just ok, and I would have been happy had she not been included on this album (your opinion may differ).

Soulnote recommended this album over the one with Starker and Buchbinder. I find both to be very good. Without listening to them both side by side, it is difficult for me to say I prefer one over the other.

I saw Chet Baker live in Detroit in the 1950's. As I recall he had Phil Urso with him on tenor.
