Hey musicboy I think that if you read through the entire thread, you'd see that the perpetrators of the wanton acts of "troublemaking", including me, have pretty much said that they're going to lay off. In spite of this, hypocrite, you have chosen once again to use my name in an uncomplimentary and I might say vindictive manner. You're a "forgiving guy" yet you have chosen to continue to bash me after I have said that I will cease and desist. Continue to carry on in this manner and see what consequences are garnered from your attacks on my character, dude. Like you said, what goes around comes around so I'm not going to worry about it either. I'm glad to see your "christian values" in practice as you threaten to defame the characters of this board and its board members, again in spite of the fact that we have pretty much collectively backed off, by publishing artices on the front pages of your vast internet empire. "If you'd like to put this behind both sites, come over & show common respect to people" Those are your words, hypocrite. I found them among your threats, continued defamations of my character, your exercising of your free speech and putting your "christian values" into practice. Interesting how my post contained nothing of controversy as far as subject matter and is actually quite innocous. Yet you - in the spirit of exercising your free speech and "christian values" have chosen to label me as viscious, and ignorant.

Well, I'm back on the Norah Jones board as IgottaNorahjones and so is my thread. Let me warn you all if you check it out. It's pretty viscious. And if any one of you try to mess with me in the future, there's more where that came from. And I'm not afraid to bring it right back here to my own backyard, get it?

I had to go with Django. I have become a big fan of his in recent years.

Thanks for adding that clarification, bertrand

Interesting that while Montgomery's image is tarnished by his commercial work for Verve, Green's is not similarly tarnishe by his late period works - especially the Main Attraction and Easy but also his late BN period. I simply don't have enough Wes in my collection to fairly judge him. I did pick up a couple of PJ discs that were very nice. But I also still gravitate to Green. I just really dig his feel.
-
Changed my mind at the last minute and went with Metheny.
-
I'm a big Jimmy Raney fan myself. The list is really tough to pick from. I voted for Grant Green. I love his classic Blue Note material. But I'm a huge fan of both Pat Metheny and John Abercrombie as well, having listened to bith of them since their earliest ECM recordings. I really dig John Scofied as well. My first jazz concert back in 1975 was the Billy Cobham band with Scofield and guitar, Alphonzo Johnson on bass and George Duke on keyboards. I've been a fan ever since.
-
I dig JJ Johnson, Curtis Fuller, Steve Turre, Grachan Moncur. But I love Teagarden. He got my vote.

Well don't I feel somewhat embarrassed, having been mentioned in the email complaint and all. I'll certainly respect the gentlemen's wishes but certainly don't like having my name in the same paragraph as a reference to "protecting our children". That really sticks in my craw. For the record, I made a rather absurd post about whether anyone knew Norah's favorite color. It was as innocuous a post as could be and not at all intended to casue trouble. Very simply, I was kind of curious as to whether a lame question like that would get any responses as a measure of the fanatacism of the posters there. I was really curious to see how far the Norah phenomenon went. Again that's hardly the type of question that should label me a trouble making jerk or make me someone from whom children need to be protected. Those comments of his linking my name to the type of behavior requiring child protection are really pissing me off. Is there a lawyer in the house?? At any rate, sorry to have caused the grief Jim. I shall cease and desist.

I know what you mean Chuck in being beneficiaries and how she could be important to BN. I actually do enjoy Norah's record. When I found her new board I put 1 and 1 together relative to the crackdown over at BN. I don't think the comments are at the expense of Norah as much as they are at the expense of that board. It is way too much. But I'm pretty far removed from the pop music scene these days too, so boards like this and "Street Teams" are kind of foreign. It's almost a culture shock. But you know what? At some point in my life I was probably there too. I mean I joined the Guess Who fan Club when I was 12 or 13. Essentially there's nothing wrong with it though it is foreign to jazz fans and artists.

They're more uptight than the characters at the Bix Board.
-
You could try asking what Norah's favorite color is. That seems to work
-
I pronounce it with a ch sound. Most do not, so I don't mind if someone does use the k sound. Just don't call me "spinach". Ask Tod about that
-
I can't believe they through me out - after just one post. I guess they can't take a joke over there.
-
I voted for Larry Young. I love the way he developed his sound an went outside the traditional groovin' organ combo. I love his Mosaic - it's one of my favorites. That said, Patton would be a close second for me.
-
I went with Andrew Hill. I've been listening to the Mosaic lately and have really started to appreciate his artistry.

Looks like IgottaNorahjones has been banned as well

Another reason I posted the link is because I found the board to be both hilarious and sad at the same time. Look at some of the threads - Songs Norah Should Cover, Messages to Norah, LET'S MAKE THIS A FORUM NORAH & BAND CAN'T WAIT TO READ!, HOW LONG SINCE YOU DISCOVERED NORAH?, How did you discover Norah jones?. Yikes I don't think that I could make stuff up this funny. I wonder if they'll let me start a Norah's favorite color thread or a What do you think that Norah is thinking about thread?
-
You could very well be on to something there David. One might be able to have a field day using some tongue in cheek irony and some not too overt sarcasm. As to the third point, any of you looking to make new friends - make sure you verify ages before swooping in on any suspected bored young housewives. Better to be safe than sorry I always say. Stear clear of any posters who repeatedly use adjectives such as neat cool sweet great super-great or whose posts contain repeated and aparrently superfluous uses of the word like.

I know that this is disclosing far more than anyone here should know, but I swear - I only read a few posts on the norah board. It seems as if the official board is closed and the unofficial board is now the de-facto official board. I read it in the messages from Norah forum. At any rate, I guess one of my points about starting this thread is that though we are seeing the zealots among Norah Jones fandom, it was seems reasonable to me that some of these same individuals - predominantly female and many apparently as young as 13 - who surfed the net for Norah Jones information and found the Blue Note site. They clicked on the link to the message board to read about their favorite artist and found a predominantly male jazz board with not too many nice things to say about their fave artist. In fact, they found in some cases some outright negative things which may have pissed them off. They, and perhaps their moms and dads, probably also saw some of more sexually oriented comments and that probably pushed them to complain to Blue Note. Add in the pictures of women, the political and religious venom that was rampant in various forums, not to mention the CDR swapping that the folks at EMI observed when they visited the board as a result of all the complaints and that all adds up to a crackdown All speculation on my part of course.

Check out this link Norah Jones Bulletin Board Yikes Don't get me wrong. I'm not bashing Norah. I think her CD is okay and she's certainly done a lot for Blue Note in terms of sales. I bought her disc for my wife and since all the hoopla has died down, I can actually sit through it and enjoy it without thinking that I'm gonna gag if I hear Don't Know Why one more time But think back to the heydey of the BNBB - the political and religious fights, the nearly naked women. Then check out some of the posts on this board. You just had to figure that some of these posters - and many appear to be VERY young - must have sampled the Blue Note Board at some point. I wonder what their moms and dads thought of the old BNBB?

I can't say that I'm a Van Morrison expert by any means. I've only got a few of his albums - the obligatory Moon Dance and Astral Weeks plus Poetic Champions Compose and How Long Has This Been Going On? (an okay foray into the jazzy side of Morrison - apparently according to AMG Tell Me Something: The Songs of Mose Allison is more successful) I hope he come up with a good effort here as I enjoy his singing and think it lends itself well to jazz. There's frequently a feel of "jazziness" to a lot of the songs I have or have heard, yet the one overt attempt at jazz that I have - the aforementioned How Long Has This Been Going On? yielded mixed results. I'm hopeful.
