  1. I already had the symphonies on EMI, which I enjoyed a lot. Last Christmas I had a gift certificate for Presto Classical, so I decided to pick up this new Hartmann set on Challenge Classics. It sounds great! Hartmann's symphonies are all different, which makes for a fascinating listening experience.
  2. Symphony No. 6 / Capriccio Italien / Manfred / The Tempest
  3. You obviously didn't get my point even if you weren't chewing gum at the same time. I'm just assuming you weren't, the same way you're assuming I'm lazy. Have a nice day!
  4. Bill Stewart deserves more praise and accolades. He's such a great player!
  5. Funny, aren't we? These new posts show up on the Topics side bar of the homepage without sub forum designation. It just read John McLaughlin RIP, so what would you think if you saw that? Can you chew gum get my point at the same time?
  6. I consider Time On My Hands to be Scofield's masterpiece! I felt this way as soon as I listened to it back in 1990. The material is brilliant, and so is the playing of the quartet. All the stars were aligned for that date. It's a classic! I really love What We Do as well. More great writing from John. It's an excellent album. And my other favorite from that time is Grace Under Pressure. Last spring I was listening to Past Present, and that's a strong album too. It must have been a terrible blow for John to lose his son, but he pays tribute to him in the titles of some of the tunes. I love Sco!
  7. Couldn't stand the guy. I'm just glad it wasn't Mahavishnu John. Why start a thread about some TV pundit on a jazz forum? Especially when you know it's going cause confusion because of the identical names.
  8. Choral Works Features Copland's early Motets, Feldman's Rothko Chapel, the late a capella work, Missa Brevis by Bernstein, Five by Cage, Proverb by Reich.
  9. I enjoyed this other one quite a bit. I hadn't heard the Brahms violin concerto in 20-25 years. And for anyone looking for a very inexpensive Brahms set, the Ultimate Brahms sells for under 8 dollars at importcds.com Recording info here. http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=225384
  10. 1. Les Idées fixes, rondo for orchestra 2. Musik, for keyboard instruments & orchestra 3. Opus 1.991, for orchestra
