  1. Sweet man! Miss him and Hank Crawford. I have the stuff re-issued on 32Jazz. Miss Joel Dorn too.
  2. ^^^ Just got the Mariss Jansons Rachmaninov box on Warner Classics. NP:
  3. I listened to a bunch of Ravel pianists on YouTube, and I own recordings by Louis Lortie, and Thibaudet, but this Bavouzet set is just about the finest overall performance I've heard for piano sound, phrasing, and feel.
  4. I haven't heard of any of those in my town, but I know they have showings 90 miles west in Rochester, NY. Anyway, i've been listening to many Saariaho pieces on YouTube, and so far i like Circle Map, 6 Japanese Gardens, and Laterna Magica. And her viola work, Vent Nocturne.
  5. Lontano Atmospheres Apparitions San Francisco Polyphony
  6. Some of his most poignant lyrics, and he wrote a lot of great ones! RIP
  7. Sad news after a long illness. Veteran drummer Alphonse Mouzon is very ill and fighting for his life. He's accepting donations to help pay for medical treatment. Also sad to see the great Hungarian pianist Zoltan Kocsis on the obit list.
  8. The tune Brilliant Corners by Monk. I thought it was the oddest music I'd ever heard, but I really dug it.
  9. I bought more of these sets than I need, but if had to part with some of them, I'd keep my Steve Lacy sets, Abrams, and Hennry Threadgill. And George Russell for a few of the albums.
  10. RIP Got to see him once with Sonny in '95
  11. BTW, Amazon is 20 dollars higher on some of these new boxes compared to Importcds.
